It can easily be put back to the standard bridge and tailpiece. There will be route in the top between the bridge and the tailpiece

The reason the trem is slightly crooked is because there are set screws on the tremolo where it rests on the tailpiece studs. The bass side set screw is adjusted in farther than the treble side.

After playing this bad boy for a while tonight, I decided the Kahler and I weren't going to get along!

So I went rummaging through my parts drawer looking for a good quality Nashville style tailpiece and bridge.....I found a heavily aged locking Tone Pros tail and a chrome Tone pros bridge.....(I'll have to pick up an aged gold set some time soon...lol)

So I pulled the trem off to find the obligatory route. Took off the locking bracket on the headstock. Nothing special...looks like a clean job, since it was done at Gibson. I proceed to install the Tone pros, setup and play.....what a difference!!! The guitar plays so much better!!!

Yes, that's a good move. I really regret having installed a few of those bad boys in my younger days. Very bad decision. IMHO, Kahlers are the worst...

from previous experience you could have that hole filled pretty easily

Guitar looks so much better and I am sure sounds better too

That looks sharp without the Kahler. Good choice on the bridge and tailpiece. I think the contrast of metals looks cool, like they wore that way along with the pickups. It works.

I'd at least fill the screw holes on the headstock. The Kahler route can be filled rather easily as it looks like a really clean route.

This is almost exactly like my 73 was when I bought it 10-15 years ago, except I don’t have a hs break. I did the SAME THING with a piece of black tape!

After a little while, I decided to do the right thing and sent it off to RS Guitarworks to get the route filled, paint blended, and a proper ABR-1 installed. It wasn’t cheap but it was SO worth it.
