vintage rails/duckbuckers

Re: vintage rails/duckbuckers

I'll add to your question, that I wonder who's tried the new 4-wire versions that allow series operation?

Re: vintage rails/duckbuckers

For the better part of about 3 years I had Ducks in my main guitar......they were really nice and clear and chimey for cleans, really cut thru nice. Dirty they were nice also, but, for my "style" they didn't really promote soloing under gain. I changed them out to APS-2s, which suited my needs more. Although they're not hum-free the added mids of the APS-2s suited medium/high gain leads to my ears, so that's what I'm sticking to. The Ducks also got changed out due to the annoying level drop on the high E...which, I believe the VRs get around by their design. They now reside in my backup strat along with a lil screamin demon, which seems to be a great match for em, just not for the full sized TB-12...although, I'm keen to hear how a series wiring on em sounds.

vintage rails in the neck-great clean sound for jazz and funk, far better than the duncan 59 full sized.but sounds way to thin for leads although it has some nice bass.

Re: vintage rails/duckbuckers

i love the duck's tone for clean, chimey chords and a little 'quack' in the notch positions with a split humbucker (n or b) ... i dont use it for gain, but it does fine for a little grit ... it does drop out on string bends, so the VR would be a better choice if you will be bending
