Closest sounding HUMBUCKER to the Vintage Staggered SSL-1 tone? maybe even coil-splitted, but whatever that can be close to it. Thank you.

: popworm: Whoa Cesar, Not askin' for much are ya.:D I dunno dude, I have the SSL-1 neck & middle in a Strat. Love the pup. My best guess would be an Antiquity or a '59 (split). I have Antiquities in my LP (but I haven't split them) & SSL-1's in a strat so we're comparing apples to oranges in my case. Sorry, I probably didn't help much. good luck.

Peace,

Darrin

Haha thanks, I'm installing a '59 right now, so i guess I can nail the tone with it, i'll let you know my results, if you care :P thank you man. :)

Re: Vintage Staggered SSL-1 Tone?

If it doesn't have to be a full size humbucker, the Li'l 59 with coils wired in parallel does a great impersonation of a vintage Strat pickup. I haven't tried a full size '59 with coils in parallel.

Re: Vintage Staggered SSL-1 Tone?

The 59n being low output and alnico 5 has as much of that brightness and chime as I've heard from any humbucker

Re: Vintage Staggered SSL-1 Tone?

no bucker will sound like a vintage single coil. something like the 59 split, not in parallel (ive tried both) can get close though. never tried the lil 59 in parallel, that sounds like an interesting idea.

the best vintage single coil impersonator ive had was a 59 that i had rewound to have mismatched coils. that way when you split it, you have a little more output than normal on the active coil, which imo, gives it that extra push to get more into real single coil sounds. the mismatch wasnt anything drastic. it still sounds like a 59 except when split the active coil has a little more output than it normally would.

Re: Vintage Staggered SSL-1 Tone?

Stag mag if it HAS to be humbucker size, Classic Stack Plus if a stacked single coil is ok, too ;)

When split the JB also has a very convincing cingle coil tone.
