Vintage tele lovers...Humbucker in the bridge

Re: Vintage tele lovers...Humbucker in the bridge

I did the same to my Tele, worked out great! The Gotoh single and humbucker bridges are different sizes so you can't go back. I used a JB at first and with a 500k pot it still sounds like a Tele!! Now I use a set of 59's and I'm very happy with them.

Hey Rich.... if you use a modern Gotoh tele bridge for a humbucker and then use a Gotoh modern tele for single coil it should cover the hole... They have the same base plate size......? I guess you mean using a vintage tele bridge after using humbuckers?

That pic was taken back in 1984 - available single-coil Tele bridges would not cover the route for the humbucker. Nice to know these day, if we change our minds, Gotoh's got us, uh.. covered.

Looks Great ~ and I imagine it sounds great too! I'm currenly gettin' 2 'buckers put into my tele, can't wait to get it back.

I guess it's OK that a couple of those old colors went to the MIM series, like Midnight Wine did. I wanted a MW Tele so bad but I was pursuaded to get a Black one instead since my Strat is MW. It's something different.

Man, all the Tele stuff lately, including my own threads, makes me want to go home early and play until I have to pick up my daughter....lol.

I'm on the look-out for a used and cheap 1999-2005 MIM tele Standard in light Blue... i forgot the Fender colour name.... Blue Aquave or something.... Anyways if i can find one, and afford it when i see it, i want to mod it with Humbuckers....

Very nice. Looks a lot better than the way I did mine back in 1994...

I was 16 and used a chisel to route the cavity... :D I lucked out on the position and she really cuts due to the pup being so close to the bridge.

I should get out the router and clean it up now... and maybe put on a new bridge.

What does the little '59 sound like in the bridge slot of a Tele?

Anything like a '59 with the Tele snap & snark?

More mids/output then a full-size '59? About the same? Less?

I gotta have the 3-saddle bridge otherwise it's not a Tele!

Give it a shot...its alot of work, but I'm very happy. You can score a bridge like mine for under $20 on e-bay if your lucky.

The lil' 59' IMO, others may disagree, was a bit more in your face than its big humbucker brother. The tone was simiar but not the same. In the end I felt like the tone was a bit fake...problably because it really was a foe-bucker. Some people swear that there is not a difference, I just didn't feel the same way. And yea you do lose most of that twangy tele soul. So it's pretty much like you have to pick one or the other...but to me, I think you would love a Hot Stack or a Quarter Pounder. Those 2 give a little more bite and and break-up while retaining most of that signature tele twang. Look into those guys...

*If* I ever go the route of putting a bucker in there, it'll be a Tele-sized bucker. Not gonna route. But as of right now, it works just fine the way it is.

Unfortunately, there are very few choices when it comes to single coil sized humbuckers for the tele lead position. Shoot, Duncan has the ’59 and the hot rails. I haven’t gotten around to the ’59 lead yet, but I do have a love/hate relationship with the hot rails. Some days it’s just right, other days it disgusts me.

Agave Blue. Good color… looks fantastic with a plain white pickguard. I don’t think Fender offers that as a stock color in 2006.

The 80s bug hit me yesterday and I’m wondering what a magenta or fuchsia metal flaked tele with a Wilkinson and a bridge humbucker would be like. I might have to kiseakea that one at lunch. I’ll add that to the 4 other tele projects that are completely spec’ed out and waiting for my broke ass to start another project.

Scott_F has one. I think his is Lake Placid Blue though. Don't know if he still wants to sell it though.

That's what I've found out. I do like the Little '59 for Strats. I've got one and think it's great. But, at the same time, I'm pretty set on keeping this one traditional so the choices are much broader there.

ya that's the colour.... my 99 is a dark metallic blue that is really nice.... but those Agave Blue guitars look really close to a Shecter tele Pete Townshend had on the 1982 tour.... If i can find a dirt cheap one i'd stick a set of Duncan humbuckers in it that i have here... i also have the bridge ready too... Pete's had a hole drilled out in the middle of the 3way knife switch on the metal plate for a Gibson style toggle...

That same Blue Agave i'd like to find in a cheap used MIM Start too... That body and colour is a good base for another of my favourite players axes... Canadian Kim Mitchell..

Mind you i don't spend great deals of time looking for these guitars.... If i find one i find one....

I can't use a bridge like that without removing a lot more wood, and it would srew with my perfect placement...

I found a top-loading hardtail bridge at www.guitarfetish.com that I'm going to try. $11.95 brand new. With screws. I have one in black for another project. The saddleas are a bit suspect, but I think Graphtech can fix that. The base plate is nice and thick.

Yeah, that'll work. and yes those saddles gotta go (many aftermarket bridges do need new ones)...I went with Graphtechs as well.
