Vintage Vibroverb!!!

So, If any of you remember the threads I posted in the past two months... "Blackface Delimma" and "Vibroverb Clone Project." I set out for a Vintage Blackface Fender. My dream amp being a '64 Vibroverb and my budget being only $1000, that was a little out of the question.

Many ideas were presented to me like Deluxe and Pro Reverbs, but those weren't for me. So, finally a I got a PM from somebody that I really wasn't very familiar with, to call him and I did. He presented to me an idea to buy a silverface Bandmaster Reverb head and blackface it, stick it into a 1x15 cabinet and load it with a speaker from Ted Weber. Greatest idea I had ever heard. He had me convinced before the convo was over... thanks Christian, I am forever in debt.

So with a Budget of a little over $1000 I Purchased:
1968 Bandmaster Reverb head
JD Newell Vibroverb Cabinet
Ted Weber Cali 15" Speaker
a Tune-up from Jeff Andrews
and a Vibroverb Faceplate.

This is the greatest steal ever. Who knew you could get a 1x15 Vibroverb with vintage circuitry for so FREAKIN CHEAP. The tone is INCREDIBLE!!!
Anyways, enough with the rambling here's the pics....

Man that is sweet! That's a great converstion. Now all you have to do is post some clips of how it sounds.

What are you running through it guitar and pedal wise?

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Schweet.

Yeah, no doubt that Christian is "DA MAN" when it comes to 'old' krap that we all love.

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Kyle,

Looks KILLER brother! We'll have to hook up this weekend and crank that beast!

Im glad it worked out like that, I know it was a long wait for it all to come together but it looks like the pieces came together quite nicely.

You try it out yet or did it just get finished???

Those Webers are great speakers but they will take some break in time...after about 30-40 hours of good play time it'll start to sound even better and the tone of the speaker will open up a good bit.

Hope it pans out that you still dig it after the new wears off!

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Cool that you found the taller reverb version....those are harder to find.

Your conversion project turned out amazing. That thing looks SO cool. I'd love to have that!

Seeing this thread makes me wish I'd hung onto my Showman Reverb head. I never had the proper cab or speaker for it.

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

By the way, how much difference is there between a Bandmaster Reverb and Vibroverb?

Joe, once you blackface the Bandmaster Reverb NOT MUCH!!!

The biggst thing Kyle had to have done was taking out the midrange control on the verb/vib channel...the Bandmaster Reverb has a mid control on that channel the Vibroverb doesn't. The tranny's are VERY similar but the BMR has a 4 ohm out while the VV has an 8 ohm out se he had to have a 4 ohm speaker made but after that it was all down hill!!

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Thanks for the answer, GWIF.

Now......if a Marine owns the amp and someone tries to steal it, what does he do to the thief? LOL

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Man KB that thing was bad-A bro! I had the pleasure of helping assemble this puppy and stuff like that. If it tells ya how excited I even was to hear this beast I ditched family night at the gf's house to go over to Kyle's w/ the soldering iron to solder in the speaker and to get it all mounted.

We got to hear it a little before his speaker came in by plugging it into my Vibrolux.

Here are some snaps from my place as we put it together. Sorry Kyle, but I must put your pic up with the amp. You have some shots that really show your excitement.

If anyone deserves this amp it is KB. The kid has got some MAD chops and sweet, sweet soul!!!

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Great. Now, thanks to you three boneheads and this post, the price of Bandmaster Reverb heads is gonna go through the roof. j/k

Looks like a fun amp, guys. Nice job.

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

Heck...they've been going up...I had a tall BMR when I was a bit younger and paid $225 I think and I remember guys telling me I got ripped off! Now they are more than twice what i paid...AND STILL A BARGIN!!!

So, kyle...when do I get to try it???

Re: Vintage Vibroverb!!!

I dunno, hopefully we can all get together this weekend and jam or something. It sounds great. There are a few nuances that need to be seen about. But this thing is freakin' BAD-A!!!

Is it doing things you dislike??

Give me a call bro...if not tonight anytime tomorrow, Im off until Monday.
