Vinyl covering on Fortuna humbucker?

I just purchased an Ibanez Prestige AZ with Seymour Duncan Fortuna pickups. The humbucker has a very tight vinyl covering over the metal casing. I’ve seen many pickups come with a plastic sticker or thin plastic sheet for protection in shipment that is meant to be removed. But this seems like a thicker and tighter vinyl sleeve than what would typically be meant to be removed. The edges are held and wrapped tightly underneath the humbucker in the cavity, and doesn’t seem especially easy to remove like it would be if it was temporary. It seems purposeful. I have never seen a vinyl cover like this over a metal humbucker before. What is this, and is it supposed to stay on or be removed?

I thought I would ask before I brute force something that is meant to stay attached.

duncans usually come with a thin plastic sheet as you mentioned you had seen before. im not sure what this is? got a pic?

Welcome to the forum!

This sounds intriguing! I wanna see a pic. Let's see if we can figure this out for you.

Thanks for the replies. Here are two photos. The vinyl is thicker than a normal protection sticker. But perhaps it's just a really good protection sticker. But it's how tightly it's adhered under the humbucker that surprises me, if it were temporary and just for protection.

I've had pickups with that style of film on the pickups. It almost feels goopier, if that makes sense. Almost sticky.
