Virtual Paf and Virtual Hot Paf in Wolfie

This is the 3 night of playing with these pups and here are some noticible differences.

1. The feel of the strings is different than with stock pups or with anyother of my guitars. The strings feel like they don't have as much tension on them.

2. Sound is very pafish/eddieish (is that really a word??) Lots of clarity, high notes ring out and low notes aren't muddy in both positions. Guitar isn't as bright sounding anymore and is more tone friendly towards different styles of music.

So far, these are keepers, I'll post more findings as I notice them. Maybe Seymour should look at making an "Air" version of the 59?? These pickups are very cool!!

Ever tried a Seth, Pearly Gates, or APH? They all use Alnico II mags, which Dimarzio's "Air Technology" was made to emulate.

Yes, but with added benefit of a tighter low end and clearer highs of an A5 magnet.

Personally I think the concept is a good one..as I much prefer those two characteristics of the A5 over A2...combine those with the "woody" nature of A2, and I think that would be the "ultimate" PAF for me.

Yeah, from what I hear even though teh concept is simple....it's a good one and people really seem to like the Air pickups.

I am near completely satisfied w/ the BB Pro's in my new Standard (I think the uncovered versions make a diff vs/ the covers...tone is more open and clear), but these DiMarzio's have my interest..for the simple fact that the HOT VPAF is what it is...Duncan makes no such PAF with that hotrodded output. It's all standard PAF or too hot in the Duncan line.

Me no likey Demon. (haven't played/heard in a Gibson, did in a Hamer Studio which is similar..yuk...too glassy..no "chunk".TOOO crunchy like a JB. Output is about right though.)

Blues won't work. Gibson man. No F space or Trems for me :D Bend the neck. Bend behind the nut, overbend, woo-woo it like sykes ;) :D

Plus the EQ looks screwy (though I have not heard one, so I don't know, may be a great pickup for all I know)

you can make ANY pup a air pup
you have to remove the screw retainer bar and the slugs on the other coil
replace the slug side with screws and then use a thin cardboard shim between the magnet and screws threads and VOILA a air bucker on ANY pup you wish :)
of course on a paf prof or fred or any dimarzio that has two rows of hex poles all you do is remove the metal screw retainer bars and then use the shims

Thanks for the link, Les. I've heard the name before, but not fam w/ the pickups. Pricing is EXTREMELY reasonable if they are as nice as people make them out be. The HO A3 pickups although output wise are a little lower than optimal for me, sound like what I'm looking for...A2 character without the compression/overly thick mids.

I'd love to go with some BK's, but I've gotta sell quite a bit of stuff first to afford them...perhaps my virginity! :laugh2:
