anyone use these pickups? i put a set in my strat and all i could say is wow! these things are superb. i wanted a little more output in the bridge however, so i decided to replace the bridge solo pro with a solo. i got the output i wanted, but it's sounds a lot brighter than i expected. the only other reason i don't put the solo pro back in the bridge is that it's got a very nice, vintage, open wah like tone and i want something slightly more aggressive.

i went with dimarzios because i couldn't really find a duncan humbucking single with ALNICO to fit the bill, plus i got a great deal on the solo pros. i need a quiet, hum-free alnico single with aggressive enough output for hard rock. any good suggestions?

Re: virtual vintage solo pro

Glad to hear someone finally has a review on that pickup! Please, tone samples!!! When you say " a lot brighter than expected" is it still Strat-like? The specs read: Treble - 6 / Mid - 7.5 / Bass - 6.5. I just ordered one of those, I want a stock look, a little more output, and a slightly darker tone (but still Straty) Is that sucka what i want?

Re: virtual vintage solo pro

I switched to the 500k, and it did make the solo pros sound unbelievably good. i won't part with these pickups, and i'm generally a metalhead. i just can't get over the tone. don't get me wrong, the solos are terrific, but i just think the solo pros have a little more character.

the solos kind of sound, to me, like hs-3 or yjm, but better and with a lot more output. i've also discoverd that dimarzios tend to have heavy mids and low midranges, so they actually sound better a little mid-scooped. adjusting the eq can thicken up the tone of the solos, but i'd prefer a more inherent quality. looks like i'll be back at the solo pro, but i won't be disappointed.

i'll post some sound samples soon.
