So I spent the afternoon at a local guitar store, and had the opportunity to try out many different guitars. My favourite of which was a beautiful EBMM Axis, damn that is the most fantastic neck I've played in a long time!! I also tried out some Ibanez models, I was fairly impressed with the playability of the high end S series, but not so much with any of the RGs that I played. I also saw one of the neck-thru HSH Squier Showmasters for the first time today, and damn that's a solid guitar and a nice player for just over $400. (Well, $400 anywhere else, this store is way overpriced for everything....so I was just 'kicking some tires'). Has anyone else had the opportunity to play one of these Showmasters?, great bang for the buck if you ask me! I think that I've been sold on the Axis though, my GAS is working overtime!!, I think that I'll have to start pricing some of these online in the near future!!

EBMM guitars are great, but they just don't like to work with my big hands. If they had wide necks that were fatter, I'd have one by now ;)

Was it really neck-thru? I though the cheap showmasters were set-neck? Anyway, I played the SSS version before and it was awesome, the neck was smooth and frets were great. The fingerboard looks milky which is weird, but a nice guitar. The one I played had a floating-wilkinson style bridge, I'd get rid of that though, bad for low-tunings.

It's always a fun time to go to the guitar shop, expecially if you pick a time when it's not too busy. You can just take your time and plink around. There are a lot of jems out there for a decent price if you take the time to sift through the chaff.

Go for the Axis. That's a superior quality, pro level guitar. A friend of mine has a trans red EVH and it's THE shred guitar, as far as I'm concerned.

The thing with shred-oriented axes is they tend to sacrifice tone for playability/trem stability. The Musicmans are great because they are both toneful and playable.

buy s/h and the resale should hold, too.
