Vocal like tone?

I was listening to some queen today and just remembered how great brian mays tone was, the solo tone on killer queen and bohemian rhapsody(the super smooth one, not the super trebly little SS amp he used) was just amazing. The tone is just so singing and vocal like, liquidy, I remember hearing similiar sounds from steely dan and paul kossof on all right now as well as that faint bending in the backround of today is the greatest by the smashing pumkins. I'm just curious to how this tone is achieved, for some reason an ac30 sticks out or maybe mid volume plexi? Does anyone know what amps are known for this sound? or maybe even an amp setting? Thanks

Re: Vocal like tone?

I think he just uses his guitar, treble booster, and a cranked AC30 for that tone but don't quote me on it :laugh2:

He also uses a sixpence for a plectrum :)

Re: Vocal like tone?

thats the word I was lookin for, second order harmonics, those are suppose to be the most pleasing to our ears right?

Re: Vocal like tone?

I was lucky enough to see queen perform live, the tone Brian got in concert was not as sweet as the tone on the recordings, the AC30's (he had many on stage!!!) and the treble booster was a very bright combination live, not quite as pleasing as the studio tones. But hey, it still kicked some major butt!!!!
