Okie, my friend wants to record vocals over my guitar stuff, we need to keep it cheap. So, for a microphone with an XLR connector, can you get an adaptor so that you can plug this microphone into a USB port into the computer??

Probably, but I wouldn't do it that way. I would get an XLR -> mic jack adapter and use that.

Can you afford a Toneport Ux1? Good way to go - mic pre simulations etc.

Well, it's USB only because he has a laptop and not a PC. Cheers for your help . I'll look that one up....Is it possible for just a lead?

He has a laptop, hence he should have a mic jack on his laptop. If not, he can get a PCMCIA-based sound card for doing all that stuff as well: they sell them specifically for recording stuff.

I thought someone like Samson came out with a cheap USB condenser mic. Check that out.

The Toneport is USB.
