Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Not if I understand your intention??? Amp's ext. cab output>Vol. pedal>speaker
The wattage involved would far exceed the design parameters of the pedal which is meant for the very low level signal of guitar pup's. Surely it would burn up quickly.

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Volume pedal shorts signal to ground it would be like slowly removing the speaker

May damage the head before the pedal

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

you could build something like that with a beefy rheostat and resistor. kinda like an attenuator in a pedal. never seen one in the wild and youd need to make sure everything is built properly so your amp always sees a proper load

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Yikes,Thanx for the Head's Up!!!

Seemed "too easy",honestly,& it's a combo amp,so there would always be some kinda load...

I remembered reading something about Gary Moore using the top stack cabs as monitors w/Vol pedals 'coz "he was tired of screaming at Monitor guys"...

Thanx Again!!!
:D

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Sure, it would make your tranny go slowly.

If stage volume is an issue, maybe you should take a look at this one:

Because of the very same reason as yours, I am seriously thinking about getting one. I had the opportunity to try it and it can be ridiculously loud adn defined. With this one I'll have a flexible and completely controllable dedicated geetar monitor.

Well if you had two amps then you could just mix the second amp in off the splitter. But I am guessing you don't have a second amp?

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

Bumpin' this,sorry...

How 'bout just a wedge w/a volume knob?
Mebbe disconnect teh tweeter/horn?
Coming outta a spkr jack...

Why not short the second cab to ground?

I believe any wedge with a volume knob is really a cabinet with a rheostat built in? (I've only seen attenuation on the tweater in wedges, not on the whole thing.)

I think you need a power soak/power brake like a Weber MASS or THD Hot Plate and run the line out to a volume pedal into something else that is just a mini-powered-P.A., like a powered monitor or something.

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

My question is...WHY?

BILL

To put on the KBs side so he can hear me better.

At this point nothing's getting miced, just Vox in the monitors...
Ugh

There are coupla borrowed/blown Peavey wedges in the garage.
I've got a 2x12 gtr cab out there,as well, although the spkrs are pretty generic. But I don't wanna give 'em away if/when cab dude shows up...Got my side of the road Yammy SS combo, too, mebbe run a line out of the Marshall into that?Pretty sure it's got some ganky pots...

Just tryin' to keep it cheap & stupid...Actually working some this week(yay!)prolly have to be the w/e before I can drag everything out...

Thnx for the responses...
:)

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

:D :D :D

Volume is quite the issue w/teh older crowd, esp if he's in the band.
Singer's kind of a puss, too, honestly, but a lot of that is his inexperience w/a board.

Just tryin'to play nice & get some chops in.And some occasional ca$h helps,as well.

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

:D

It's fine on my side, although this is the "quietest" situation I've played in.

Work in progress,for damn sure...

Thnx Again!

Re: Vol Pedal to Ext Cab?

One thought...are both speakers the same model and the same impedance? If there is a mismatch in efficiency, it makes things more difficult. Likewise, mixing a closed-back with an open back can cause an imbalance.

I almost always use a Mesa combo with a 112 Mesa EVM Thiele cab with my band; but I stack the amp on the cab. We do a lot of low volume gigs and she never has a problem hearing me. There's kind of a sweet-spot for setting the amp against the wall--I want a few inches of space between amp and wall to the sound can spread through reflection. Too far away though, and you lose the coupling effect with the wall.

Good luck!

Bill
