Vol/Vol/Tone RR3

Keep in mind I know nothing about anything about pickups or wiring what-so-ever. My question here is:

Can I have my RR3 adjusted so the knobs are not Vol/Vol/Tone and have them rewired to Tone/Tone/Volume for my Jazz/DD pickups that I'm soon to order.

Is this possible, and will they charge me big time for it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Vol/Vol/Tone RR3

I think you can get this done, just put in tone pots instead of volume pots. I'm no guru so I'm not 100% but, I'm pretty sure you can. Also, it wont cost much, as much as changing a pot out (and if your knobs are labeled you might wanna by new knobs to eliminate confusion).

Re: Vol/Vol/Tone RR3

Is the tone pot considered to be a master tone or just for one... I cant remeber why, but a master tone with 2 seperate volumes won't work correctly cause the vols will affect the tone pot...
Also, the volumes would have to be wired special or theywould affect each other.

The pots are usually the same - in your case I'm guessing 500 K ohms. Yes, they can be rewired; you'll just need to add a second tone capacitor, which probably costs about 39 cents. If it takes your tech more than an hour, find a different tech.

Re: Vol/Vol/Tone RR3

Actually, you don't need to add anything. Most Strats only use one cap. Its just a matter of moving a couple of wires around. Since on an RR3, you can remove the control panel without removing the strings, it shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.

Generally, a tech will charge for the first hour though. I would. ;)
