Volume pot issues

Probably a simple fix, but figured I’d ask here.

I have an Egnater Tweaker 15 head. The volume is low at about 0.5 or maybe 1, then gets super loud after that. It basically jumps from bedroom level to LOUD AS F**K, with no gradual increase in between.

Time to buy some Deoxit?

Nah, it’s in the pot itself. It’s been the bain of many an amp since the beginning of time.

AFAIK, the only solution is replacing the pot with a smoother tapering one.
However, I’m not a tech so somebody that knows more may have a better solution.

Edit:
I suppose you could use a volume box in the loop or an attenuator to control the volume too.

Re: Volume pot issues

Did this just start happening?

Not familiar enough with the Tweaker to be able say for sure, but it sounds like a linear pot and you need a log (audio) taper. Old Marshalls were like that but I wouldn't expect them to do that on a newer amp.

If it just started, yeah, definitely try some deoxit or similar.

I'm pretty sure the volume increase on my Tweaker is pretty gradual, but I don't remember for sure

If this did just start happening, Deoxit is definitely worth a try.

I have Egnater Rebel 20 and it has same issue. I lightly tap it to get the level right, because it's impossible to simply turn the knob in position between too loud and barely any sound.

Pretty gradual for me. Did you use Deoxit to fix it?
