volume pot question

Hey,
I got a 2009 schecter C1 classic (JB-bridge, Jazz-neck) and I noticed the volume knob just responded badly. From 0 to around 4 there was a weak unusable tone, after 4 a sudden burst of volume that pretty much didn't change all the way up to 10. Very different from other guitars I've played where you can go through a good range of softer to louder usable tones just by riding the volume knob, not to mention the inability to pull a decent volume swell. A friend suggested that maybe it was a bad pot and to try swapping it out, so I installed a dimarzio ep1201 and unfortunately nothing changed in the dynamics department. I don't know what stock pot was in there but I know the dimarzio one is supposed to be decent. So my question to you guys is what other components in the guitar might be contributing to the problem? Do I need to swap out the tone pot too? capacitors? I'm pretty clueless about guitar electronics. There has be a solution for it, hasn't there?
Thanx.

Re: volume pot question

Probably a bad pot. Then again, I have note found volume pots to increase as expected on guitars.

Re: volume pot question

Pots come in two types;Linear [Audio Taper ] and Logrythmic.
The response curves are quite different.
Can you identify the origonal pot value ? [ It's usually stamped on the side/ some times the bottom ]. If it's an audio taper there will be an A with the pot value
EG; A500K
If you can identify it, try changing it to the opposite type of the same value [xxxK].
