hey guys, new to the forum. im torn between two boutique humbuckers,
Peter Florance's Voodoo 59s and Lollar Imperials. clips of both sounded great. ive heard many say the Voodoo's are bright, and the Imperials are unpotted so they might tend to squeel under high gain. has anybody had experience with either pup? thanks

welcome to the forum freddie!!

i havent spent much time with either of those. for vintage humbuckers, antiquitys are my favorite. im sure some one here has played them and will chime in later

Seems like there are more players over on the Les Paul Forum who are familiar with those pickups than here. You might want to pose your question over there or just log on over at the LPF and do a search. Like Jeremy, I'm very fond of the Antiquitys and the Seth Lovers. Also the Tom Holmes, Harmonic Design and Lindy Fralin HB's. But I have no experience with the Voodoos or Imperials. I think Dr. Barlo might know a bit about them but we haven't seen him around here in a while. Have you tried to do a search here on the Duncan forum for info on those pickups? Give it a try. Lew

Just flip a coin and take the plunge. No way to know what something's going to actually taste like to YOU until you take a bite.

I've heard the Voodoo 59s, and they sounded very nice, but it wasn't an extensive test. The Lollar Imperials have a great rep. From the rumblings I've heard, the customer service might be better or more consistent from Lollar. Both products are supposed to be topnotch -- like so many others.

Re: Voodoo 59's or Lollar Imperials?

I had a Voodoo 59 neck pickup in a guitar I ened up selling. It sounded very, very nice. It had a nice complexity and was very warm while retaining nice harmonics.

Florance can be hard to reach, but when you do get him on the phone he is great and will steer you in the right direction. That's what he did with me (60's Tele pickup) and I freakin' love the thing.
