Vox AC-30 Lovers

Re: Vox AC-30 Lovers

I'm coming into this thread late so if its been mentioned.... so sorry :)
I love the AC30 sound - check out the new Queen DVD 'Return of the Champions' - not only will you be entertained by arguably the best rock singer ever, Paul Rodgers, but you will also be carried away on the sweet AC30 goodness of Brian May's guitar sound. As an aside - not meaning to offend die hard Queen fans (I love 'em too) - but in my humble opinion they don't miss a beat by adding Paul Rodgers to the vocal slot ..... no offense to Freddie either.

I honestly have never seen/head the allure. I've never thought the Vox sound was all that spectacular. Fender does better cleans, marshall does better grind. I can appreciate others liking that tone but I've no use for it personally...it's like drinking a glassful of maple syrup to me...sickly sweet. IF I want jangly british cleans I'll go Hi-watt.

Have you ever dimed an AC30 & jumped the channels like a Plexi?

Try that if you get the chance and see if you don't change your mind. Grab an LP, SG or something in that ilk for the 'taste test' LOL

The "cut" knob also makes or breaks that amp and IMO running an AC30 with an overly bright guitar is like sticking an icepick right into your ear.
