Vox AC30 with Vintage 30's

Re: Vox AC30 with Vintage 30's

Vintage 30's come in a lot of boutique EL-84 combos, so it's not uncommon.

What it does is lend a more Marshally midrange and tight lows. You lose a bit of the chimey high end you'd get from Alnico Blues. A lot of AC-30's come with Greenbacks, so V30's are like a beefier step up from that sound.

If you like to overdrive an AC-30, you'll appreciate Vintage 30's. If you're looking for the traditional Beatles, Petty, U2 chimey clean tone, you're better off with Alnico speakers.

Thanks, Gearjoneser. I have always that it was funny that Celestion designed the Vintage 30 as a modern version of the Blue, because they don't sound the same at all. Still, the V30 is a great speaker in its own right.

I'm running an ac50 with a couple of different cabs.

Eminence Redcoat ramrod, seventy 80s and 75s.

Granted this amp uses el34 tubes but it's "clean" channel IS an ac30 circuit.

Sounds good however I slice it and dice it.
