Vox AD50vt + Rocktron Gainiac 2?

Hi all,

I've decided that I don't need a tube amp anymore 'cause I play bass in my band. I thought about buying Vox AD50vt and Rocktron gainiac 2 preamp for recording and home use (yeah there is toobs in there but you got the point). Also my bands' guitarists could use the gainiac. I got an offer for 300€. Should I take 'em or leave 'em? I play everything from funk to metal.

Thanks,

Does the AD50VT have an FX loop (FX /power amp return)? If not, then get either the Vox or the Rocktron.

Also, the AD50VT is the older generation... apparently the VT50 is much improved. I dunno... I just have the AD30VT myself.

Yeah, it has an fx loop. That's why I thought that the combo would be good, gainiac enhancing the tone of the AD. The new VTs aren't too expensive though. Decisions, decisions...

E: Wow it doesn't have an FX loop, dang! Thanks for pointing it out. Well, have to look for those new VT's. Opinions about the gainiac 2 still?

Don't know much about the Gainiac... what I do know is that if I were in the market for an older preamp, it would likely be an ADA MP-1. Or a JMP-1.

I used to have the original gainiac.. I think only difference between that and II is a slight voicing change in the gain channel and now the tube is in the loop for the clean channel (with volume control now, imagine that)

Try before you play. It has a very specific sound. Not really versatile. I love it...but its hard to describe. Its very edgy, Not ultra-full-gain. Just very edgy.

Thanks for the info! Yup, I've tried it and thought it souunded quite nice. Really loved it for some 80's metal. 100 euros in a local music store.

If you've tried it and it does what you want, then disregard my preamp opinions.

However... what poweramp did you run it through in the music store? The power amp will color the tone to an extent.
