Vox DA5 and pedal question.

I need a practice amp for my stay at music school, and after hearing JeffBs clips, I am getting a DA5 in camo color :D

But what are the presets based on? Which are Marshall etc?

Any settings suggestions?

And I have money for a good drive pedal, and I am pretty set on a MXR Distortion+ or DOD YJM308. Which one would do good as a boost on this amp, and in general will work well with other amps? I wanna use it infront of my ENGL, as well as the schools Fender, Vox and Hiwatt amps (No multichannel, all of them are pretty oldschool type, except my ENGL).

Hope you can help me :)

Thanks

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

I may be wrong because my amp is in my high school classroom, but I think I remember the models being:

Dumble clean
Blackface Fender 2x12
Fender Bassman 4x10
Vox AC15
Vox AC30 Top Boost
Marshall Plexi
Marshall JCM800
Marshall DSL?TSL 2000
Mesa Rectifier
Soldano
Dumble Overdrive.

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

Cool.

because on the amp, it only says stuff like "blues 1" "Crunch 2" etc.

Thanks.

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

You really don't need a boost pedal with this amp. Kind of defeats the purpose of having such a compact little unit actually. And some of the models on there are downright crunchy already. Plus with the built-in effects it's really all you need.

Yup. But I need it to push those HiWatts on the school over the top.

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

Does the DA5 have 2 programmable channels like the other valvetronix amps? you could always program 1 of the channels with a boost...

Thats not the problem with pedal.

The problem is, that I am have to use a 100watt HiWatt single channel head live, and I cannot turn it up to 10 in a club, so I need a overdrive pedal infront of it.

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

Do you mean the AD15vt or the AD50VT? There is no "DA5" in the Valvetronix line. As for the Hiwatt, I would go for either an Ibanez TS or Boss BD2... How much gain are you going to need in a school performance?

Re: Vox DA5 and pedal question.

I have a BD-2 and a TS-9.

I dont use the BD2 though.

The TS-9 is only for lead, it is too nasal other wise.

I need pretty high gain, as I play 80s inspired metal. Something along the lines of Yngwie, Accept, Judas Priest (Defenders OF The Faith era) and Randy Rhoads era ozzy.

I mean the DA5 btw. It aint a valvetronix afaik?
