Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

I really dig the Satchurator as well, I have always had a fondness(love/hate actually is a better term) for the DS-1. It's just a refined DS-1 with a lead gain boost.

I had a love-hate relationship with the DS1 until I figured out how to use it really well for my sound. Now I love it. I've owned four of them and three of thgose have been Keeley versions. I always sell them when I don't need them anymore and then regret it. I just picked a used one up for $25 at Guitar Center... I'm gonna keep it this time!

All the Satch pedals have been pretty good so far... I wonder if they'll continue after this one. I'd imagine the next one will be a chorus or an Octavia type thing.

I'm currently running a modded TS, a Bluesdriver and the Satchurator. If the Ice 9 can do something in the ballpark of the TS or BD count me in.

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

I'm still waiting for clips of this. I was dissatisfied with a stock Satchurator. I had it moded and it really sounds better, waaaay better. I hope this one doesn't need any modifications.

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

what is funny is back in the day these guys like Vai and Satch recorded some of their best work on equipment that was either cheap and plentiful, or begged and borrowed from others.... yet they made it work... these days they can pretty much play thru anything they want... they have companies tripping to make stuff for them so they can sell more stuff... just the way the biz works...

Yup. Add the ubiquitous 59 and JB to this list -- they were his main humbuckers on Surfing.

I love my Satchurator. Silly name, good pedal, especially at the price point. Just a shame it only works well with one of my four amps.

I'm not as tempted by this one, since I've got a modded SD-1 that I like just fine. (Still, you gotta admit that it looks frikkin' awesome.)

Who did the mods? It's all surface mount parts so not that easy of a mod. Side by side with my keeely DS-1 it's the better pedal, IMO. But not by a lot.

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

Well....pedals do not sound good on all amps, some shines best with certain setups...
It is the amp that is "topendy"......and is quite upper middy....
With a darker meatier amp, it is nogood coming with an even more fat od on top of it:)
Same with the Satchurator, it sounds great on some amps, and others...forget it and use something else.
Endless modding is just too much work all the sudden.
:D
Not that I do not like to tweak, more the opposite, but these pedals where tweaked for Joe's tones....

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

The 10db boost killed it for me. I was hoping it would be a more switch like the Satchurator. Not a boost. I see the need, but not something I want. To bad, I really wanted to complete my Vox pedal Trifecta!!

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

Anyways...that demo is actually a major turnoff....(total crap recording and sounds)
Where is Joe??

Video demos of gear like this at trade shows vs. trying it out in person is akin to watching a cell phone vid of a band live as opposed to being there.

I didn't think the demo was all bad but I'm wondering if that gritty, fuzzy sound is an artifact of the recording or whether the pedal actually does sound like that.

I reserve judgement until i get to try one out.

Re: Vox Ice 9 Overdrive...

Man it was beyond a bad recording...total digital crunch out crap....
Gods I hate these times...nothing but grating splatzy tones made by digital crap:D....
Somebody do a good recording of this thing!!!
HAH!
