heys guys. im sorta lookin for a vox ac30ish sound as opposed to a marshallish distorted tone to go along with my dsl50. im always on the clean/ plexi channels and im lookin for a nice pedal for a black crowes type of boosty overdriven tone. ocd? what are some cheaper alternatives? maxon? ive got a boss bd-2 but it sounds stale and disguisting. thanks.

Re: vox sound

What Lestrat said. All CM pedals are works of art and Rid (the designer of the AC tone) is a genius with the best ears in the business.

Re: vox sound

I think it's difficult to nail the EL-84 sound with a pedal, simply because it's got to have those tubes to get all the complexity, fatness, and chime.

A used Vox AC-30CC would be your best bet. Or a Gibson Goldtone, which I own and love.

Re: vox sound

Oh . . .

. . . and i second, the AC TONE from CM, even if RID is pretending to work on some top secret delay that can make my coffee too !

Re: vox sound

Boh!
Well it got close with that AC-Tone, and I have had my fair share of EL-84 equipped amps, the hard part is that clang and funny chime.
Hehe Jack what are you doing at the Waterdragon??

That's what I am thinking to, but before you go drop a grand on an AC30 at least try the Vox "Over the Top Boost" pedal. It runs a 12au7 and to be honest I was blown off my rocker by it so much so that I shelled out the 230 clams and bought it. For me it sounds incredible through my Lux! It has that really chimey, complex and 84ish complex tone that I love. It is good enough that I have no desire to buy an amp for that tone anymore.

Re: vox sound

Sorry for hijacking, but what happens if I try a CM AC-tone on my AC30? Will I get ultravoxy sound? Or will it just sound... like before?
