Re: Vox Tonelab EX - HELP!
Those Vox ToneLab pedals are great. Good modelers, decent effects, and a (relatively) intuitive user interface. I don't have the EX, but I do have an ST that is similar. Let's just have a quick look...
This pedal operates in two different modes - "preset" mode and "stomp box" or "manual" mode. The two "Bank" footswitches toward the upper left are how you access presets, and also how you get into/out of "stomp box" or "manual" mode. You step on both Bank switches at the same time to toggle between preset and manual modes of operation.
In stomp box/manual mode, the chicken head knobs will be WYSIWYG. Wherever the chicken heads point, that's what you get for settings of each effect parameter.
In Preset mode, you can step on either Bank switch to move up or down one preset in the library. I find this mode can get confusing, because every time you switch to a new preset, all of the effect parameters will take on new values from the preset that will probably be different from where the chicken heads are pointing. If you now turn a knob, you are changing that one parameter in the preset to a new value. (The LED display will light up the decimal point when the selected parameter value is the same as in the original preset.)
The presets are good on this pedal, but I get very confused when using it in this mode because the knobs lie about what settings you are using.
Hopefully that will get you going. Give that pedal a good workout and let us know how you like it.
