Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

John,

I used the Strat last night at rehearsal, instead of my Usual LP or SG. Using some of your JCM800 patch I got some real good tones. Much better than when I tried it with teh LP at home. Seems to be better suited to the Strat. The JCM900 setting was good as well. I'm going to mess with your complete JCM800 patch and see what I get.

Thanks Bro',

Jeff

Jeff......every one of my presets were created with a strat only and single coils,so that makes perfect sense! If you use humbuckers or a beefier guitar, more than likely you'd have to trim some gain back and increase the highs...

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Oops, my error. The patch I made last night started out with the 68P Plexi patch but I did change it to UK80s, which sounds more like an early 70s amp in my setup.

Thanks man, yeah anytime you want to send some tones, that would be great! I'm going to try and make at least one usable patch a day for it. The only thing that the Valvetronics amp has over this setup--one piece to lug instead of three and a bunch of cables. Oh well, tone always wins out over convenience, ha ha.

The UK 80s amp is perfect for my band,as we do mainly 70s classic rock and blues...We also do quite a few clean tunes and some newer stuff...I can cover alot of ground with that 1 UK 80s 800 preset I made and the BF Clean 2x12 preset....

I also have a really great higher gain Dual Rec tone I created for N Young stuff like Cinamon Girl etc....

Just sent you 6 presets buddy.....Dial that JCM 800 one in and let me know what ya think? It was setup with a strat and single coil antiquities,so you may have to tweak the highs and lows some...The tone and vibe of that preset is one I use alot and like alot also....

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Also.....when playing out live or practicing with my band,I have the overall tonelab volume control set to 3/4 of the way up...This is the little volume knob on the back of the unit...

I also run a volume pedal between the ToneLab's mono out and the input of whatever amp I'm using.....I use a seperate Vox wah straight into the input of the ToneLab...This leaves the expression pedal wide open for me to use for effects control via the pedal...This setup affords me both great tone and "alot" of versatility and volume control with my band...This setup has worked great for me since day 1...I dialed up some presets straight away upon receiving my own TLLE..

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Try the SRV preset in the TLLE...It's pretty dead on...I dialed the reverb back some, but the tone and vibe with a strat is there!

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Will this thing power a cab on its own or would you need a power amp first or PA/keyboard amp type setup?

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Thanks Jeff, I was pretty sure you did, just like my GNX, but thought just maybe :) All the talk about the power section made me think possibly.

I had the same thought when I first got the TL. It would be great if you could just attach speakers, but then it wouldn't be as compact as it is, I guess.

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Thanks Jeff, I really would like to grab one of these some day. I was really impressed with my AD50VT but I just didnt need another amp :)

You'll love it. I have the original desktop/amp-top model, but the LE model, like John has, is the way to go.:14:

I'm digging up this tread because I finally have one on the way. Are you all still enjoying yours after having it awhile? John, I would really like to check those patches you were sharing ;)

Yep love mine and I still run it through my Fender BF Pro Reverb 2x12 combo..It's pretty much all I use since I bought mine....Send me your e mail address and I'll send some patches your way.

I noticed that you have a Marshall dirt pedal and a Vox wah in front of the TLLE. Is that your FX chain, or do you have the external pedals running in some loop?

The Tube Screamer(not shown) and the Jackhammer are in the efx loop and only used once in awhile with a clean preset where I need to switch back and forth between clean and overdrive....It's easier that way.

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Very nice set-up....

Since it plays so well, how about sending me all those unused pedals?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to them.

Re: Vox ToneLab LE(My Trimmed Down Setup)

Do the ST and LE also have the preamp tube in it like the desktop ones? Has anyone experimented with different preamp tubes?

Best to leave the stock EH 12AX7 in the LE....You have to adjust the tube if it is replaced also....Guys that have changed out tubes in the LE,reported not really much difference and it's not worth the change...I still have the stock EH tube in place and I Love my LE! Can't speak for the ST?
