I just got a vox tonelab ST and I can't find out how to use it with my pc can some one please HELP. I downloaded the software off vox's site but how do i run it?

Re: Vox tonelab troubles :(

Don't they have a PDF manual of some kind or something? I've got the Tonelab LE that I bought a few years ago and I was able to download the editing software and get it working without any problems. It was so easy that I don't even remember doing it.

Anyways... sorry I'm not more help with your particular issue, but just wanted to chime in to keep your thread alive and reassure you that you'll get it figured-out. If not, shoot Vox an email with your issue and I'm sure they can help.

BTW... I do love the Tonelab. I tried all of the floor modelers and liked it by far the best. Must be that tube in there...

Re: Vox tonelab troubles :(

There does seem to be a PDF manual here, under "ToneLab" (right at the top). Was it of any help? I admit that mine is the original ToneLab; it works via MIDI, so I might not know enough to help much.

Is the software working so that you can at least edit and save your tones from the software editor?

I will admit that I haven't ever imported other people's tones. I've saved a bunch of times after creating and editing my own patches. And it works great for that. In fact, I gigged the Tonelab once and used my netbook (with the editing software loaded on it) to actually control the Tonelab. Never had to bend-over and mess with knobs on it once. Did all of that on the computer. Was pretty cool. But I'm more of a tube amp guy at gigs, so I went back to them. But I use the Tonelab for daily practice and the editing software for tweaking my tones when I feel like it.

So it installed correctly, and opens when you run it, but you aren't able to change the "virtual" knobs and have it affect your sound? Do you get a message saying "dump receive not available" when you click on the editor software? If so, your Tonelab isn't communicating with your software and you need to make sure there's nothing wrong with the USB cable or connection between it and the computer.

Re: Vox tonelab troubles :(

Go to MIDI setup on the top menu items of the side window. Make sure that your MIDI In and MIDI Out ports are set to be USB.

Re: Vox tonelab troubles :(

when I try to set up the midi to usb all it give me is "none"

I think that may be your problem. So your MIDI send and recieve is grayed-out then?

Does your PC make that USB connection beep sound when you plug/unplug the USB cable (or power on and off your Tonelab)? If not, then for some reason your PC isn't seeing your Tonelab.

Not really a menu, but I get a quick message saying that it's connecting.

Let's backup here though... you've got the ToneLabSE SoundEditor software installed on your PC right? And then you double-click on the desktop icon for it to run it and it opens, correct?

Re: Vox tonelab troubles :(

I have the sound editor but i was not aware that i also needed the tonelabse

But yes the sound editor runs when i open it

Sorry, that must've been a mistype on my part. I meant STeditor. Your editing software is labeled for your ST right?

So the software opens, and your Tonelab ST is plugged into your PC via a working USB cable and turned-on correct? Does anything happen at all on your PC if you power-down your ST and then power it back up again? Like some sort of quick message that says your device is communicating with your PC and/or the editing software?
