Vox ValveTronix VT15 on its way out?

It stared with an occasional a loud buzzing when I plug into it. I would jiggle the cable or restart it and it would clear up. Now sometimes I get a really high pitched squeal. Lately I've even been able to *hear* the tap tempo flashing.

Seems like something fried. Anyone ever have anything like this with a VT?

Oh well, at least I'm rediscovering channel 2 on my SCXD

Ive been through a handful of the VOX modellers since inception. The 15s get really hot and stuff gets fried over time. My VT15 does all kinds of crazy stuff...shuts off by itself..dies out..makes weird noises, switches channels on it's own.

BUT, try a new 12ax7 first.

I've seen a lot of modeling amps be brought back to normal by scrubbing out every jack on the amp with contact cleaner or alcohol. My Vox Valvetronix head was out of commission till I cleaned the FX loop jacks. Oxidation inside them caused the amp to do all sorts of things like cut in/out until it finally stopped making any sound.

I think you can also restore all the factory settings by holding down the channel buttons while powering up. That sometimes clears out the glitches.

Thanks guys. I don't think is the tube because the problem is intermittent. I have given the input jack a quick blast of contact cleaner and its helped. Maybe I need to clean it a little more thoroughly?

My VT15 is sort of acting up too. I lose sustain and occationally get a kind of wobbly tone on lower frests on the E and A strings.
It's mostly noticable with some dirt and I doubt it's anything but the amp that's acting up (exactly the same problem with 3 different guitars, with and without pedals).
