Vox Valvetronix VT30 VS. Bugera V22

I am looking for a new amp and i have narrowed it down to the Vox vt30 and the bugera v22. I play mostly classick rock with some modern stuff. Overall witch amp would sound better for what I play. I know that the bugera may not be reliable but i don't care that much as I plan on buying a warrenty for it so please nobody comment on that. I am just concerned with what amp will sound better.

They're almost completely different amps -- i'd think you'd be comparing the V22 to the Night Train or that Jet City thing that's so incredibly bad-ass and cool.

As for the topic at hand...no brainer. The Vox sounds great, is pretty reliable, and has way more to offer. The Bugera is a Bugera so it will sound good in the store and then break and ruin your christmas.

Seriously -- that Bugera crap is total crap. I get to sit around and mess with dozens of amps all day every day and I only mess with Bugera's when they're breaking or I'm selling one to somebody who simply will not listen to me trying to steer them towards something awesome.

TRUST YOUR GUITAR SHOP STONER. We are obsessed with guitars and tones and end up spending lots of time bored with piles of gear to mess with. When I say something is a piece of ****, it's because I saw a shipment of five come in, and saw each of them leave, break, and come back.

I understand that the V22 will probably break on me but i really want a tube amp and can't find any under 400$. Does the VT30 Model tube amps well? If not what are some other choices i have.

Re: Vox Valvetronix VT30 VS. Bugera V22

The Valvetronix stuff models tube amps pretty darn well. I have a Marshall TSL100, and right now (for reasons of convenience) I am slaving it to my ToneLab. The JCM2000 model actually sounds better than the preamp section of the real JCM2000. Never mind that the Vox models a truckload of other amps.

If you're going to get a real tube amp, save up and get a good one. There's no sense in buying a junky version of something just to have one. That kind of money is better spent on something with some versatility, so that you can sample some different flavors and start to get a better idea of what you want when you finally do get a nice tube amp.

I have an older AD30VT and it really is a good amp. It is probably one of my favorite hybrids since the old Marshall Valvestates.

I just changed the speaker on my Vox to a Jensen C10Q and it sounds great.

Remember: there are great solid states and crappy solid states, just like there are great tube amps and crappy ones. Having been down this road a few times before, I can tell you taht you will likely be WAY happier with the Vox than a cheap Bugera.

Yes.

If the Bugera is your dream amp then get that. If it isn't then save up and get your dream amp. Anything that isn't THE amp for you is a waste of $.

BUT, in the meantime, the Vox will help you decide which tube amp you want - and can serve as a nice practice/backup rig even when you do get a good tube amp.

As for tube amps, look into getting an older Mesa/Boogie DC series. I have a DC 5 and it always gives me that "WHOA!" factor.

Re: Vox Valvetronix VT30 VS. Bugera V22

I'm playing a Vox AD100VTH through a Vox 412BK cabinet, not a big investment but big payback. This amp does a lot of amps very well, as it uses a tubed preamp. Effects are limited to preset combination's, but can be controlled separately. You can dial the output from .02 to 100 watts, and there's a presence control to dial in other cabinets. Can only program and save 2 channels, limited but for the bucks it's all good. These amps and cabinets can be bought in the $150/$200 each range. JMHO

I love my Valvetronix.

It sounds better in every way, in every situation than my Blackheart Little Giant (with JJs) through a nice 1x12 with a Weber Blue Dog speaker.

I loves it.

I have gigged for years, and I still gig with the Valvetronix.

LMAO! Your good for a laugh EP, that's for sure. I own the Bugera V5 which is the Class A EL84 sibling of the V22 and I've not had any problems with it. Only thing I've changed so far is the speaker but I could've lived with the stock speaker. Furthermore every Bugera that has left the store I work at has not been returned, for any reason. We have seen the customers come back though who all said they were pleased with their purchase.

I understand that they may not be built to withstand the abuse that say, a Marshall Plexi could, but it's also a fraction of the price. Don't kid yourself, no amp is indestructible even if it appears to be. The more TLC you give your gear the less it will need repairs.

To the OP: if you want maximum versatility go for the Valvetronix. If you want a real tube amp, get the V22.

Re: Vox Valvetronix VT30 VS. Bugera V22

^^ your mileage may be different from mine but my spine definitely remembers all three of the 333XL combos I had to cart out of my warehouse for ONE customer who kept having problems, and i still feel bad about the grandma who called me up when the V22 we dropshipped straight to her house to be there in time for xmas morning didn't work out of the box.

I'm glad yours works, man, but it's a cheaply-made piece of Chinese lameness.

Re: Vox Valvetronix VT30 VS. Bugera V22

Just because the V22 is a tube amp doesn't mean it sounds good.

Save up for what you want just like some of the others said.

PS I only hear bad things about the V22, and when I played one at a shop it kept turning on and off and crackling. The whole thing was just garbage. The guy who was working there was shaking it and smacking it trying to get it to turn back on. Not the type of amp I'd like to take to a gig.
