Hey I recently had post deciding which amp I should get and I have chosen now to get the VT50. I just want to know if anyone here has used it for heavier metal or thrash music (like Metallica or Maiden) and what their experiences were. I would also like to know if a distortion pedal would work well with it, for example a Boss DS1 or Metalcore?

Re: Vox VT50 for Heavy Metal, Thrash, etc

I used it for Thrash (the older version) for about 2 years. I didn't even used a pedal for it.The soldano model delivered the goods.
The "black" faced ones are even better. Very solid thrash tones with good definition and overtones.

those vox VTs are great amps. it might help to get an overdrive or low-level distortion pedal to tighten up a drive channel already on the amp, though i'm sure you wouldn't even need it.

I used the older model in a tech-metal band for a couple years. These can definatly handle thrash tones. I used the built in tubescreamer on my amp so that might be something to look into.

I know the XL's can handle heavy distortion, I want to know if the VT's can.

I was refering to the blue faced model and honestly never even used the 'high gain' models, mainly the older marshall models. But those did the job just fine.

How about a distortion pedal, can those work good with the VT50 too? ( I just want to be thorough before I make my purchase)

Re: Vox VT50 for Heavy Metal, Thrash, etc

I own the VT30 and a buddy of mine has had the VT50 for a year now. There are definitely great metal and thrash tones on those amps. Like Daemon, the Soldano (USA High Gain) model is was my favourite. It kept me satisfied in university dorm while my Triple XXX was at home.

Are you planning on using a pedal to boost?

Man the only pedal you'll need is the one that controls which preset you wanna use.

Seriously, the amp has TWENTY TWO amp models and built-in effects. They all sound pretty good and some of them sound AWESOME.

With four presets, you could have 'super reverb cleany,' 'rock crunch,' 'xdeathxdoomxblackxgrindx666xcore' and 'whatever the **** else' and be able to get thru most metal gigs.

i would probably do '60's crunchy' '70's crunchy' 'thrash crunchy' and 'fuzzed-out endless doom' for my presets.

the amp is awesome bro. for the price you pay to get one, it's hard to beat.
