Vox Wah issues

Well I've had my Vox wah a few months now and I'm not sure we're really getting along.
It just doesn't seem to wah the way I'd like.
Plus ya can't power it off the mains which means when I build a pedal board I'd either have to modify it or leave it on battery (which some what negates the point of the board really.
I may just have to sell the thing.

i just got mine last night. i like it so far. and the and the batteries last like 100 hours. so thats not too bad if you have to use em. and is it just me or is the wah break way down at the bottom i know most are more towards the top when they break.

You'll need to describe how it doesn't "wah the way you'd like". Too trebly, too bassy, too narrow of a useful band, not intense enough "wah" (low Q), etc. Also mention what the rest of your rig looks like.

I had a 90's Vox wah reissue that I just didn't get along with, it didn't "wah" enough. That was with my old SS practive amp. Once I got my first real amp it sounds great.

Re: Vox Wah issues

I think narrow is the problem, seems either to go from nasal to clang very suddenly. Probably something you could learn to use, but I don't use it enough to get better.
I did check inside to see if there was any manual adjustment that could be made, but to no avail.
It's not on the bay if anyone in the UK is interested.

Thats what I use. The rubber stop things fell off mine which accidently kinda gave it more sweep albeit needing more control. I really like the VOX wah sound for clean stuff.

One of the reasons I use a 535Q is so that I can tweak it a bt more depending on my mood and coordination.

Must say it's pretty good for that whacker, whacker '70s funk/porn sound track kinda sound :)

It also gets nice Hendrix and Cream era Clapton...

You can also find a sweet spot to get some Page soloing sounds (don't rock it just leave it there).

I just use it for funk and Hendrix and for that it is perfect. If you're thinking about Slash or Satriani I have a feeling that a Cry Baby would get you closer.

Re: Vox Wah issues

I have a VOX 847 wah I don't like all that much, but I'm keeping it in hopes that they'll be worth some coin one day

What model Vox is it? If you have a Vox 847 which does not have a power supply you can connect a power adapter to the battery clip. I have this on one of my old vintage Wahs. I use a Visual sound one spot to power my entire board. Works great, but the One spot may not work in all situations due to the type of pedals you may have. I have 3 or 4 one spots & I also use 2 or 3 boards depending on the gig & the amp I am using. The visual sound one spot Combo pack comes with all different adapters so you can power some line 6 pedals that I think are 18V as well as 9 volt pedals. It has a daisey chain adapter as well as 2 battery clips. If you find a local dealer you might be able to just buy the one spot & the battery clip. Your problem should be solved.

Now if you are not happy with the voice of the Wah that is another issue. there are some mods that can be done to these wahs that will make them sound a lot better, but a simple thing to try is to disconnect the long gear attached to the gear on the pot and adjust the pot to give you the desired sweep you are after. This is a very personal thing on what type of sound you want out of your wah. The other thing to consider is Wah pedals typically have the greatest range when they are used relatively clean. Once you add a lot of gain which will typically add a lot of bottom, the wah will loose some of its range due to this. When I play with a lot of gain I typically use the wah with the toe no higher then mid point. Bringing it all the way up just adds too much bottom for my taste. The point is I think you have to experiment with it more before you give up on it. If this Wah is not going to work for you consider looking at the Tesse Wahs as well as the the Clyde Deluxe by Fulltone. These IMHO are the best wahs out of the box. Now the other option is to have your existing Wah modded. There are several guys on this board that do this and do a great job at it. It;s really just a matter of taste as to what you want from a Wah!
