W Boggs Firewater

A friend lent me a pair of W Boggs Firewater pups to use for a Les Paul currently without pups in it. I've never heard of the brand, a quick googling just gives me some 20-ish year old goss about how the guy who owned the company was a good-for-nothing who absconded with someone's guitar and a bunch of people's money.

Anyhow, I've got this pair now, but I have no idea what they're like, can't really find much info on them, so I'm debating whether it's worth my time to install them or just shell out for something I know I'll like instead. Does anyone know that they're like? For reference, I play mostly low-tuned thrash/death metal. In my roster, I currently have:

• Dimarzio Tone Zone B + Air Norton N (like them both)
• Duncan JB B + Jazz N (like the JB; don't care for the Jazz)
• Duncan Full Shred B + Duncan A2Pro w/ hex poles N (like the modded A2Pro, don't care for the Full Shred)
• Duncan Pegasus B + forgot which model it is M + Duncan Sentient N (all sound good)
• EMG 89 B + SA M + SA N (like the 89 and the neck pup, mid does nothing for me)

No idea, but if you already have the pickups, and you just need to spend an hour or two putting them in and getting tuned back up, it sounds worth it to me. Maybe they're great. It wouldn't be the first time a good for nothing scallywag made something of value.

Will Boggs made excellent boutique pickups. The story as i know it: At the end of his guitar making career he had an accident on the street, he had to pay health bills, move and things went downhill. At the end of his business days the quality of his pickups was said to decrease and people claimed not getting pickups for their prepaid money. Sad story.
As long as you see the older darker back label, you can be sure to have high quality boutique pickups in hand.
