Wah Pedals...

So I'm debating whether or not I should get a 2x12 extension cab or a wah. I'm leaning toward the wah right now, and I was wondering what you guys would suggest? I want it to be able to fit in with metal wah sounds and be smooth, not harsh... it should also be able to do classic rock... basically everything moving upwards from there. But the main thing is a metal tone!

I've had my eye on a few pedals, those being the Dunlop 535Q and CryBaby From Hell. Part of it is that they are adjustable so the range of wah tones would be wide. Any other suggestions?

The Dunlop Wylde OD is great for cutting through high gain, and does a great "metal" wah sound.....but it's not very smooth when used clean, and it has a narrow sweep that's focused on high gain, so you may find it lacking in range when used clean.

If I were you, I'd check out the Classic and Hendrix....both with fasel.

I tried out the Wylde Wah and didn't really like it all THAT much... it was too throaty almost. Anyway, what makes the classic/hendrix wahs better than the 535Q or CFH?

Yeah, it was that throatyness that I liked with high gain, but it's way to harsh with cleans.

As for the Classic/Hendrx, nothing actually makes them "better", I just prefer them more. A buddy of mine swears the Classic w/Fasel sounds just as good as his Vox wah, and the Hendrix will do clean and cut through gain fairly well. I've never tried the Classic through high gain, so I don't know how well it will cut.

The CFH will also cut through gain like a knife, but I donno how it's cleans are (I've only heard it through high gain), but after having one of the fasel wahs I can't see myself buying a non-fasel Dunlop.

Again, I'd try as many as you could and choose the one you like best.

It's mostly metal like I said but a nice clean wah would be nice too.... but I've heard a few soundclips of the CFH and it doesn't sound too bad for clean.

About the Fulltone Clyde... how many dealers actually stock them, and are they really worth all the money? how are they under cleans and high gain?

From the research I've done, it's between Fulltone and Teese as to the best clean to OD wah, with the preference being a matter of personal taste as to which is the best.

With regard to high gain, the Clyde doesn't really cut that well, just like most other wahs that're designed to sound good clean. I donno about the Clyde Deluxe though, I've just read that a few times about the Clyde.

The Teese Wizard wah is designed for humbuckers into high gain, so that may be another pedal to check out, and I don't believe it's as expensive as most of the other Teese pedals.

I went to a music store today and tried out the Dime CFH. It was really adjustable with a 5-position tone switch, 3 fine tune knobs and a boost, and it didn't sound bad at all. I also really like the boost function... it adds gain and volume according to the level set on one of the fine tuners. It almost seems like there are too many options.. however you could get almost any tone out of it couldn't you? PLUS I see it has a Fasel inductor in it... What say you?

If you want a tweakable pedal check out the Ibanez Weeping Demon. Goofy name, but an amazing pedal. Thoroughly underrated for what they can do and how they sound.

On another note, there's an auction on eBay for a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah for around $300 CAD ($260 USD). Is that a good price for the wah? It's got 3 modes which I think could come in handy, and since John/SD97 praises the Clyde so highly I imagine the Clyde Deluxe would be just as cool if not better because of the modes.

I only use my own modded wahs but Lew loaned me his Clyde Deluxe and it was a great sounding wah and very vocal....I Liked this wah over the Teese Picture wah and the Teese RMC that Curly loaned me...The Teese Wizard Wah sounds pretty promising though?

Yep. That's the one I use. Or my Voxs that STRATDELUXER97 modded for me with Fulltone Clyde parts to sound as good as my Fulltone Clyde.


It's the absolute best Wah Wah for Hendrix tones ever made...and the Fulltone 69 is the absolute best Fuzz Face clone made.

Put 'em together and if you can play the licks like Jimi, you'll have instant Jimi Hendrix tone that'll blow your mind!

The fasel inductor is just ok really and it's not the only key ingredient in your quest for great wah tones...You always benefit from the best inductor you can get though and the fasel isn't it.....Just check out some different wahs and let your own ears guide you from there...:13:
