Wah Pedals

Hello folks. The guys in the band want to do "White Room" and maybe "Voodoo Chile" and I will be in need of a decent sounding and fairly inexpensive wah. I've used the Vox 847 and like it....is there anything better for the price? All comments good and bad welcomed.

Re: Wah Pedals

I don't think there's anything better for the price. But you can make it better by sending it to STRATDELUXER and have him make it sound exactly like a Vox Clyde McCoy Wah Wah or Fulltone Clyde Wah pedal...same spec pedal Hendrix and Clapton used. Lew

That sounds good, Lew....John did wonders with my Sparkledrive.

Thanks again Lew for the plug buddy!

We can do this but it's very pricey! Might be better to just use the stock 847 if it's only for 2 songs? The inductor and pot alone will cost you about $50...

How's that SD working out for you now?

What's really kinda cool and Ironic is that we just brought in "White Room" also....Plus "Mainline Florida" off of the 461 Ocean Blvd Clapton album...Great tunes! I do have a kicka$$ wah to do White Room with.... ;o)

I might get the 847 and plug it in to use it and unplug it after the song is over, so it don't suck the life out of my tone.
The sparkledrive is alive and well and back on my board. Thanks again John.

Re: Wah Pedals

John,

I know you were trying out those Halo inductors...have you tried any more of those or anything else? I want to get you to mod my 847 but im not sure which inductor I should go with.

I can do true bypass and add a buffered power supply pretty cheap for you,but the pot and inductor make the overall mods pretty pricey.....

You could almost get a Fulltone Clyde Std for the price...Great wah and my favorite for the money...About $175 or so...

Hello buddy.....I Love the "Halo" inductor...It's nice and smooth and I've tryed 3 of em already....Much better than the red fasel(Another inductor)that isn't too bad either...

I can help you guys do the work yourselves?

John took my 847 and put true bypass and an inductor from Fulltone in it. Sounds amazing! John's rebuilt three of my old wahs and all three sound as good as my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe...the best new wah wah I've ever owned.

Thanks Lew....Mike Fuller stopped making his wonderful inductors available to the public and now I'm using an exact "67 Halo" copy that I get from Banzai Effects in Berlin Germany....These are also great inductors...I do still use and can get,the Fulltone pots though...2 key ingredients to great wah tone before the board mods...

That Deluxe is a bit too steep for most of us though...The Std Clyde is great and I can add the side volume control or a gain control etc if a guy wants it..

Re: Wah Pedals

John: I would love to do those mods myself but to be honest I can't stand working on those little parts on a PCB and to be honest you're the mod man so why not let the mod man do it! I love your mods and trust your ear so as soon as I can pry it off my board and do with out it for a bit im gnna send it on down for the treatment. If you say those Halo inductors are good then we'll go with one of those.

Thanks Christian.....I figured with all the amps you've built and the knowledge you possess, that these changes would be very easy for you...It is actually pretty easy once the pcb is out and in front of you...It's up to you though brother? I'd help you through it if you like.

That's true about the Clyde Deluxe...I never use the Wacked or Shaft settings on that pedal. Just the Jimi setting. So yeah...the standard Clyde would be just fine for most players. Or a STRATDELUXER modded 847. :) John also added a volume control to my Vox 847 like on my Clyde Deluxe...I do use that! :) Lew

The volume control is cool, but even cooler is having a "gain" pot that changes the overall gain of the wah...Most of the more recent ones I've done have the Gain pot...I think Jeremy's has it also?

I don't like to even mess with my amps anymore to be completely honest...all the small parts, and the time it takes up I would much rather simply spend what little bit of time I do have playing guitar than playing with them! I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to work on, tweak and build amps but these days with a massively fulltime job I would rathe just play plus like I said...you're good at these kinds of things and you enjoy them...seems like the way to go to me.

I fully understand buddy and it's one reason I wasn't on the forums all last week....I've been working on alot of different things, plus learning new tunes for my band and installing the BroBucker etc...Plus working, being a husband and a Dad....Takes alot of my time...:smack:

I Miss this forum if I stay away for more than about 1 day though...:laugh2:
Horrible addiction, but guys like you keep me on the forums...

Re: Wah Pedals

I saw thet you took a little break but Im glad to see you back!

I'll have to hit you up soon about these wah mods and we'll catch up as well. I really wont to get my Wah done but I can't seem to get out from under my foot long enough to get it in a box!:laugh2:

Truth is the tone is good...not amazing but good but the non true bypass is killing me (and my tone) and he fact that it only runs on batteries just sucks!
