Wah reviews

I went to a music store today to get a fulltone clyde deluxe wah. I have a few wahs, but none of them are true bypass. I tried it out on a Mesa dual rectifier, and then a Marshall mode 4 with a PRS singlecut, and a off the wall fender strat. I wasn't getting a tone I wanted out of the mesa, so i switched to the mode 4. Set the clean then teh overdrive channels. Went throught he 3 settings, and ran the volume up and down. i gravitated toward the jimi, and wacked settings. the lower register of the sweep was full, and sounded great. the upper register was cutting and a touch fuzzy (as in fuzz pedal). The inbetween tones were very usable and sounded as I would have expected. the volume knob was useful to add a bit of boost. I found i liked it best at 50-60%. I saw a RMC pedal and asked if it was true bypass. the rmc wahs are true bypass so I decided to try it.
I tried it through the Marshal mode 4. i did hook up the fulltone and rmc up side by side so i sould try them listen carefully playing the same phrases. Anyway, the RMC had a very generous sweep from low to high. The thing that struck me immediatly was the richness and smoothness of tone on the RMC. Especially in the upper tone register. the fulltone and the rmc had similar lower register sounds with the fulltone set on "jimi" or "wacked". The "shaft" setting on the fulltone was more of an upper tone register dominant setting. When ran through a heavily distorted amp setting they both ascerted themselves well, with the rmc being heard the best through the whole tonal sweep. I thought the fulltone articulated less well in the upper tone sweep (rocked forward). I thought this was possibly due to the already mildly fuzzy character of the upper sweep.
I would have to give the edge to the RMC by a hair due to it's rich, smooth tone. Something about the tone it created really catches ones ear. i tried out the rmc1. I would like to try the rmc2, and 3 with the adjustable settings. I have to say the construction of the fulltone was bulletproof. it felt very solid, and had a smooth feeling pedal when rocked back and forth. I think my next wah purchase will be a RMC :bigok: but either of them are great wahs.

Re: Wah reviews

I have an RMC1 that I love. Lew has a Clyde that he loves. Both good pedals, although I haven't tried the Clyde, I know Mike builds good stuff.

The RMC1 has a wide sweep physically and tonally, and is a blast to play. For those with humbucking pickups, the Wizard is a better choice.

some of the older ones had a switching problem for a while, but Geoffrey supplied replacement switches at his own cost.

Re: Wah reviews

I only use the Jimi setting on my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe...

Never heard a better wah...but I have used vintage and newer Vox Wahs primarily.

Haven't tried the Teese or RMC...
