so im looking to purchase a wah pedal. ive never owned one. but its always been a piece of gear that i've wanted. id like to have a vintage type wah and ive had my eyes on the Fulltone Clyde and Clyde deluxe pedals for a few years now and just never got around to buying one. anybody have any experience with these two or any other suggestions for a good vintage tone? :thanks:

p.s. im not BYOC Bbent and Andrizzle, unless you want to donate some time to solder, B Bent.:banghead:

Re: wah

I got a Clyde deluxe a few months ago to replace my ailing dunlop 535q. I can't comment with regards to vintage sounds but it is VERY clean compared to the 535. not quite as adjustable but the 3 way switch yields 3 very useable types of wah sweep. I have not opened it up and messed with the trim pot yet to totally dial it in but that is always a crap shoot anyway as I could dial it in for one guitar and have it sound like junk for another.. so far though it is a very nice well built pedal with good tones... a bit overpirced probably but so far so good.

Re: wah

you buy both of us BYOC wahs and I'll solder them both! FOR FREE! OR.... You could get the BYOC one and I'll solder it for $129.99! Sounds like a SCHWEET DEAL to me!!! ALSO, I'll do some sort of sweet graphic on the bottom like Greg's! but seriously, it sounds pretty dang awesome!

Re: wah

Try Geoffrey Teese's RMC wahs before you spend a cent on anything else.

Cheers.....................wahwah

The Fulltone clydes and the Tesse wahs are the best out of the box wahs on the market. They are pricey, but they are also excellent. If you want to experiment you can start with a stock Dunlop, but as most people you wioll find them to be lacking the "vintage" voice. IF you want the Hendrix type of sound, get the Clyde Deluxe and be done with it.

Re: wah

choice A.....Area 51.

choice B....Teese.

choice C....don't bother unless it's choice A or B.

Re: wah

This is going to sound uber newb, but for vintage wah, I always liked what I get from a strait up crybaby.

BEAUTIFULLY PUT! I couldn't have put it any better myself... I recently got a Teese Wizard which are voiced more for 'bucker guitars, and some of the guys on here recommended Area 51, got the drop in kit within a week to the UK, 20 or so careful minutes to swap the board out of the "tread on the pedal and do nothing" Crybaby... and WOW, vintage Italian WAH sound. AND the real surprise.... combining the 2, the range of sounds is unbelievable and yet retains clairity. If I had to chose just one it would now be the Area51 coz it's just a fantastic sound, you can buy the complete pedal not just the board.

Exactly. Best Wah Wah I've ever owned. And plug a Strat into a Fulltone '69 overdrive and the '69 into the wah for some amazingly accurate Jimi Hendrix tones. First wah wah I'd owned since 1968 or so that really got the vintage tone of the original Vox Wahs. Lew

Re: wah

Ive been standing by snarling dogs wahs since i bought one 3 years ago. They're great and better than alot of other wah's ive tried, particularly dunlops.

Re: wah

I like my old Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby. It's got a Rev E board (no input or output buffers), modded for true bypass (wah's need it), Area 51 inductor and pot. Sounds great with that inductor. I'd like to pick up a Crybaby Classic too.
