wahs

Re: wahs

The mxr cae has two internal trimpots to adjust the q on both of the inductors. It also has an internal trimmer for the gain. In addition to that of course it has the built in switchable boost function. Its true bypass too. After dialing the q pots etc, im totally sold on this pedal.
ps. lucky thing happened the other day - i ran into an old mate who no longer plays - hes giving me his jimi hendrix wah that has never been used!

Free wah? Sounds good to me. :approve:

Re: wahs

Just got one of these little "puppies" a couple of days ago
Its called the Chi-Wah-Wah, only a few milimeters larger than a Boss Pedal, has Level, contour and gain controls.I got this because of its small footprint and ability to just step on and step off the throw in wah here and there in a solo/verse etc like a Bad horsie.
Sounds great too! :cool2:

Re: wahs

yeah those chis look cool.
And yeah the free wah is a nice thing...its a jimi hendrix model....which should go nice with my hartman NKT275 fuzzface, fulltone octafuzz and dejavibe! Might just keep them all together, and plug my strat into my marshall and see if it sounds cool.

Re: wahs

Thinking about getting the Area 51 Drop-in kit with buffer for my 847.

Re: wahs

i juts picked up the hendix wah and it looks a lot inside like my old crybaby gcb95. That is - no true bypass and no fasel. Ill try it out when i get home, but ill prolly mod it to true bypass. When i modded the gcb to true bypass i really noticed abig drop in volume when the pedal was on, so i guess it will take some work before its as good as the MXR CAE. If i end up changing inductors what do the experts recommend? Yellow, Red or Whipple etc?

Re: wahs

i like my crybaby wah that i modded, but i have never tried any serious wahs like the original vox, the fulltones, mcwah, etc.

i like that if i screw up, i can go to the pawn shop and find a gcb95 for like 10 or 20 bucks.

Re: wahs

I got the hendrix wah home and played for a few hours. Its not good. Even after adjusting the gear on the pot.
So today i true bypassed it which was a start. then increased the q resistor, and incresed the mids. Much better. Works nicely in front of my germanium fuzz face too so yeah its cool. I A/bed it with the Cae wah too and juts kept modding till it sounded more or less like what i reckon works well for a hendrix kind of sound when used with the fuzz. I rolled the gear back a knotch or two also so its a lower sweep. Useful now.

Re: wahs

I have a brand new Snarling Dogs Whine-O-Wah that sounds amazing. I'm not much of a wah guy so you guys may think it's really crap. It has 3 tone settings for "Shaft" type wah, "Voo Doo", and "White Room" toned wah. It's got a volume control and built-in independant distortion with two different settings, and a boost switch to activate a second inductor.

This is pretty darn versatile and to my ears sounds really good, but like I said, alas I'm not a wah type guy so it sits new and unused in my closet. If anyone wants to give it a try, I'd be willing to part with it (PM me or drop me a line...dave@drberg.org).
