Want. (Mesa)

Re: Want. (Mesa)

As a Mk V player I think this is cool and would be a great JIC backup. However, I rarely use channel 3, I mostly stick to CH.1 Fat and CH.2 Crunch, so by putting both of those modes on the same channel on this amp they engineered its usefulness out of it for me. Still an awesome idea though

That was kind of my thought too. I wish there were a lower gain option on channel 2.

Re: Want. (Mesa)

I mostly use Ch.3 in the MkIV mode and the power switch on veriac. I haven't found a Ch.2 sound I care for yet.

Re: Want. (Mesa)

I have the regular Mark V and I still want this! Just when I thought I had it all, they come out with these. Mainly use for quick studio use and especially for live. Far more portable than the big daddy version.

Re: Want. (Mesa)

i still think it would be a cool mod to replace the mode toggle switch with a connector that sends a cable out to a footswitch to allow selecting on the fly between clean/fat/crunch ... it would obviously be warranty killing if it were not reversible, but i don't think it would be electrically difficult or noise introducing (assuming it is a control line and not switching the audio signal)

i'd want one of these if they paired it with a light weight 1x12 or 2x12 cab ... 16 lbs is awesome, but they have to cut the TOTAL weight of operation down ... mesa cabs are VERY heavy ... find a good neo speaker, skip the oversize dimensions, and use some 'good enough' wood instead of 5/8" baltic birch that could survive a nuke

Can I just say for the record that it's downright incredible just how many options that thing has? I don't think it's possible to add another knob to the front faceplate.

Re: Want. (Mesa)

Interesting for sure.

It would be really fun to take this, the Mini-Recto Reverb, the 5:25, the Lone Star Special and the TA-15/30 and do a side-by-side comparison. And then it would be fun to add in a couple of the older Mesas, like the .22 Caliber+, the F-30, the DC-3 and the Maverick. I have the DC-3 (112 V30) and the Maverick (212 V30) combos (which are very different)--not sure if I feel a need to replace any of mine yet, but these are 4xEL84 power sections--the 2xEL84 amps do have some appeal.

I too would like to see Mesa do some 6V6 amps. They keep telling me that the 6V6 tube quality isn't great.

Lots of different flavors....have to get one of each, I suppose....

There's a discussion of the 6V6 issue over on Grailtone. Mesa's take seems to be that EL84s actually break up leas and give more clean headroom which, in a relatively lower power amp, might make sense. No personal experience with this though.

Not going to happen. Mesa doesn't build that way. All of their amps are designed for pros, and that means durability and reliability. I just can't see them cheapening a cab to make it lighter.

My solution: I started going to the gym, LOL!

Best,

Re: Want. (Mesa)

I don't get the complaints about this thing weighing 16 lbs, but then again I'm a farm kid who grew up carrying heavy s*** around because I had to. Ya know, stuff like 50lb seed bags, 50lb feed bags, 5 gallon buckets full of feed, bench pressing a transmission into place while somebody started a couple bolts in the bellhousing, wrestling tractor wheels into place, ect, ect......

And besides, what's the furthest you're gonna carry it? A few hundred yards at the very most?
