...Just my comment back in the debate days, if it's quiet as a mouse fart, who cares what it looks like inside.

I agree 100%.. I only prefer the right angles from an aesthetic point of view, and even then only from earlier when I used to do minor repairs and mods myself because it just made it easier for me, personally... But I´d never buy an amp with the intention of having it modded, so that´s a non consideration today....

I don´t think I´ve opened up any amp save my Mesa 50:50 (to change driver tubes) in 10 years or so... I think today I don´t really care, that´s what amp techs are for

Was there a reason why you chose poplar over something like marine grade birch, Scott (I'm assuming to keep the cost low)? It looks nice :fing2:

P.S. Good call with the aluminum chassis. I believe that extra cost will be worth it's weight in gold!

I have to get used to these tone controls. They are very active. They don't work like your normal stuff you're used to.

My settings tonight in CHT (chicken head time)...

Volume 10:00
Bass 8:00
Treble 9:00
Master Volume 5:00 (dimed)

Much more clean headroom when I turn back the tone controls. Crank up the tone controls and you kick in more gain, kick up just the treble and the amp gets kinda jangly and chimey.

Now, here's the deal... the other day I didn't care for it running it into my Two Rock 2x12 cab. Then I tried it again after I "learned" how to use the tone controls. Infinteily better than last night. I also changed two cap values and that seemed to increase the bass response nicely.

Oh yeah, I put a 12AT7 in the V1 position and I like how the amp softened up a bit. I'm going to include both types of V1 tubes so the customer can choose which one works for him.

This has been a lot of fun. Now I just have to find a single 12 speaker that can give me the tone I was getting tonight.

They always say that you only get about 3db of volume increase when you double watts.s But, you also get that when you add a second speaker. Instead of worry about making this thing 30 watts, I'll probably make a 2x12 at some point for it.

When it comes to the price of wood these days, it's always an issue. I thought about pine, but it's not quite the look and it's normally pretty soft. Tolex or tweed maybe with a pine cab.

The poplar was a good economical choice that still had decent grain and would stain nicely. It's harder than pine and basswood.

It's open back so the tone aspect of the wood isn't quite as critical. I've been getting some great advice from Jeff Swanson (cab maker and amp builder himself). He knows his stuff and I'd highly recommend him to anyone that wants something special made. He's got some killer stuff on his website. When it comes to wood working some folks have it, I don't.

If you're refering to the wood pics in that shop, wel, that's Jeff Swanson's shop. Mine is so freaking crowded I can't hardly turn around when I have my constructoin table set up. I'm going to stick my Pro Reverb in the attic or somewhere. Make some room.

Nope, it needs to be gutted and I just need to start over with it completely. It'll be my prototype for the Brenna when it's turn comes up.

That's cool. If you decide you ever want one, the power trannie for Franklin offers 220v and 240v support. Very easy to do. I'd just have to get a Variac or something to test it on this side of the states.

The Return Policy could be a beatch since shipping would be high. ( I assume). (Acutally when I sent that Strat to Mattt, it didn't cost *that* much to ship. Customs hickeyed him pretty bad though. Any way around that?)

better yet, it sounds good. I can crystal clear chimey voxy thing going and then I can get that AC15/30 grind at ease. I've finally figured out how to tweak the tone controls. There are a lot of great tones in this amp.
