Hi all,
I have a Jackson SLATXMG3-6 with a FR Special and would like to replace it with an OFR. Anyone know if this would be a drop in replacement?
Thanks
why do you want to replace it? any particular problems?
I also think that Gotoh is a direct replacement for Floyd Rose II.

Thanks for the replies. No issues with it. I am just looking to get a better bridge.
I put a FRSpecial on a project guitar. It's not incredibly different from an OFR, which I have on another guitar. I would get a big brass block for your FRSpecial and call it a day.

There is really no reason to swap it unless there is problem with the bridge. Are you unhappy with the sound now? Start with a larger brass block and see how you like that.
If you like the sound of the guitar now, leave it alone
Thanks for the reply. I'm not unhappy with the sound at all. Guess I'm guilty of buying into the "If its not an original Floyd its a problem waiting to happen" line. It appears, as are most things 'net, to be somewhat exaggerated.
The saddles and the block are zinc, just like the Gotoh, so no worries there. Zinc has a "softer" tone than steel, so if you like how it sounds, great!
The base plate is steel, just like the OFR.
You can always just upgrade the parts on the FR special.

Not a bad idea at all. All I saw for saddles was the titanium though,,,,, expensive! I'll have a better look later at home. Thanks!
I put one of these on my OFR and it was a nice improvement.

If you REALLY want to upgrade your saddles, go with the GraphTech StringSaver saddles on this page. They're less expensive than the OFR saddles from Floyd Rose, they're steel, and they have StringSaver material at the point where the string makes contact.
