warm sound for a strat

I currently have a SH-6 DD in the bridge position of my strat, which works great for the distorted tones i use. But i am looking for a warmer tone than that which the stock pickups give me. I want to stick with single coils in the neck and mid. So any reccomendations for two good single coils to match my guitar for a very warm clean tone?

Re: warm sound for a strat

I gotta say Antiquity Texas Hots.

Or APS-2's.

I'll second Lews recommendation but I dont think you'd go wrong with SSL-1 or 2's either.

I like those too...in fact, I like them better than the APS pickups. LOL!

But he said warm...I think the APS pickups tend to be a little less sharp in the treble and fuller in the mids = "warm".

And I agree with you again, I love the SSL's but the APS are warmer and thats what he's asking for :)

Re: warm sound for a strat

I think he wants a bucker, isnt he? Maybe he should wire it for split.

Re: warm sound for a strat

warmer as in a nice jazzy tone. would the ssl's or aps's suit this better?

I can get a warm jazzy tone using alnico 5 pickups like the SSL-1's or Antiquity Surfers...so does Eric Johnson. He can sound like Wes Montgomery and he does it playing his Strats with alnico 5 pickups just like the SSL-1's. That's a function of his touch, note choice and setting the right tone on the amp.

But overall, alnico 2 single coils like the Ant Texas Hots or Duncan APS single coils will have a warmer tone.

alright, now that being said. What would the difference be between the Staggered APS and the flat? other than the obvious. ;)
