Warmoth Binding?

Diminished Triad

Has anyone included binding from Warmoth while ordering a guitar kit or designing a Warmoth guitar?
Warmoth's virtual guitar illustrations seem to make the binding look more like a frame on the face of the guitar body and I definitely do not want that look.
On the other hand, if the Warmoth binding covers any imperfection in the laminate top glued to the guitar body or remains off to the side(s) I would be open to Warmoth binding.
If anyone has ordered guitar bodies and added the option of binding from Warmoth I would be thankful if you shared your thoughts and how things turned out.

Thank you!

Re: Warmoth Binding?

Warmoth's binding is awesome! I know what you mean about it looking like a frame, but that's kind of how I see all binding on guitars; as a type of frame to draw your eye to the body. Either way, their binding work is top notch. However, on my LP from them you can still see a bit of the maple top below the binding on the back, just because the maple top was so thick. I think it looks fine, but it might not be what you're looking for. Don't think my carved top Tele's binding does this, but I'll check when I get home. But they don't make the LP anymore so you wouldn't have to worry about that anyway. But on Strats and Teles it looks great

Re: Warmoth Binding?

Yes, binding is aesthetically a frame. It will define the edge of the guitar very well. It works especially well with figured wood as the plain edge is a neat fullstop to the decorative interior.

Re: Warmoth Binding?

Very helpful and enlightening.
For some reason thought that a pure wood looking guitar body face would look better without a "frame"..............and if I can ask, is it just paint or do they use a slightly different material? Thanks again.........especially for the pics!

Re: Warmoth Binding?

I think the warmoth binding is plastic. It gives you a bound option even before any paint option is chosen. I believe there is also a 'paint binding' option too if you choose a finished body

Re: Warmoth Binding?

Binding should show on the front of the guitar. Its name gives a strong clue as to its original purpose. Namely, fastening the top and sides of a hollow, fully acoustic instrument together.

On a finished solid body, it should be possible to create the illusion of binding by masking off the edge during some of the spraying stages and then removing the masking before applying clear coats.

Thanks and it all makes sense. Maybe I can ask a related question too, what does the guitar look like without binding? Is/are there glue imperfections or anything like that on the sides where the laminate meets the guitar body?

Re: Warmoth Binding?

No imperfections on warmoth. It looks like sides on a prs. No visual break as it were unless you go for a faux clearcoat binding. Google it if you want pics.
