Warmoth Guitar Company?

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

I see many members here fearing of exotic woods. I believe that if the foundations (body + neck) are great and you assemble it right, it's hard not to make a great guitar. Fear not the exotic woods, they 're just woods! Maybe you should join http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php and see many creations by the members of this forum. There are many people who choose other woods except alder/ash/maple/mahogany.

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

There is NO reason to ever fear exotic woods fo sho! I think people hang on way too dearly to Gibson and Fender ideals which really were never that great to begin with.

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

I think people who have exotic wood guitars want the woods to keep their exotic status... what fun would it be if everyone knew how cool they really can be? And look at what happened to ebony and brazilian rosewood... Too many exotic guitars means F'd up forests.

Besides...why use exotic wood that looks cool(but sounds pretty much the same as regular wood in terms of what most are going for) if your going to put 20 coats of paint on them? Exotic woods are alot better left for acoustic guitars where the woods actually contribute alot to tone and looks, cant switch out pickups in an acoustic to change your tone.

ANY guitar means F'd up forests! We're all guilty as sin.

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

Yea...but I feel a bit more guilty if im F'ing up another countries forest.

Nothing is better than an unfinished exotic neck....I just hate letting other people know...

Why? We're all humans, we ALL need the oxygen? Why can't we ALL share ONE planet?

Yeah, I don't like to share too many woods secrets with people...haha

True that, but we should stop taking wood. Either that or start planting a ton of trees!

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

Right on dude. Which is why I encourage anyone building a copy guitar to maybe keep with the originals...

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

I don't know where they get exotic woods, but I imagine that woods like maple, alder, and ash, probably come from trees that were planted to be harvested.

The paper industry would have plucked this earth bald by now if it wasn't for replanting.

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

Time to start looking into hemp people, nothing to see here!!

Valco made guitars out of fiberglass, and now they're actually sought after (probably because of White Stripes).

Let's not forget that Dano made guitars out of material most people don't even want their furniture made out of.

Hemp MDF board is probably a very real possibility.

Someone in TDPRI came up for a link for this Les Paul knockoff that someone made from Home Depot wood.

The body's made from an ordinary 2x10!

Re: Warmoth Guitar Company?

Whether the wood has been planted specifically to be harvested for such purpuses as guitar building depends heavily on the source. You can get mahogany that is "certifiably" environmentalist friendly. I really am interested in how a walnut guitar might sound, its not used much but is easilyavailable...

Hemp fibers...hmm...I think if someone where to research and develop such an idea they might just end up with some good vibrations...

I think it would be interesting to build a guitar out of some select species of acacia...I know they use black acacia on some acoustics, really beautiful wood.

The amount of wood the guitar building industry consumes is downright paltry next to what goes into furniture or a corporate headquarters. All those executive's with solid mahogany & cherry desks and plush boardrooms... The wood contained in one average 20 story building is probably equalivent to what say, Martin or Taylor uses in an entire year.
