Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

My one and only experience with satin was when my wife bought new sheets. I nearly got a concussion!:31:

Makes me wonder if I got a satin finish guitar if my hand would keep sliding off the fretboard :nervous: :D

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

I got the same email... good move on their part! I'm a "glossy" guy myself, but satin is VERY popular. I only have one satin-finished guitar... fingerprints don't show up so easy on it, but I find that the ones that do show up are harder to wipe away. :dunno:

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

I have one super glossy guitar...shows fingerprints like crazy. lol Satin finish or hand rubbed oil finish is the only way I'm going from now on. lol

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

I love the look of satin when it is new. The only problem is that after using it for a while the area where your arm/hand rubs will create a glossy finish. Plus you can't buff our scratches unless you want a glossy finish.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

I can't say that I've ever been much of a satin fan except for my sheets.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

I know that when they've offered nitrocellulose finishes, they've only been available in a clear satin finish. I wonder if one could now order a satin nitro finished body in any color.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Love the Satin compared to any glossy option. They have me clicking through their showcase again. This is dangerous.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Hey everybody...Aaron from Warmoth here. I'm the guy in all the Warmoth videos. We spent a lot of time working on these new Satin finishes. The point Imperfect raised about Satin finishes quickly "polishing up" to gloss is legit. It's something that happens to Warmoth's Satin-finished necks. They do this because the Satin Finish we use on our necks is Nitro. Nitro is soft, and after only a couple months of playing those Satin necks become Gloss necks. The Satin finish on the bodies is Poly, which is much harder, and should stay Satin for a long, long time. We tested it quite a bit, and were pleased with it's longevity. Now that these will be out in the wild, hopefully the results will be the same.

Incidentally, we only use the Nitro on our necks, never on our bodies. Bodies only get Poly.

As I mentioned in the video, these Satin bodies are ridiculously smooth and slippery. When I was shooting the video, the bodies were hard to hold up because they were so slick. I was seriously afraid is was going to drop one. The gloss bodies and had typical "grippy" feel of gloss, and were much easier to hold up....not that any of that matters in a real-life situation, but I can definitely see some players preferring one feel, and some the other.

The various satin-bursts are incredible!

Classy and modern at the same time...I dig 'em!

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Are there still 3 or 4 Aarons working there?

Yup...5 Aarons. As a result, I get called "Cheney" all the time...which I hate. :grumble: Getting referred to by your last name is such a high-school jock thing. If I need some other designation besides my first name, why can't it be something like "overlord", or "oh captain, my captain", or something a little more cool?

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Satin feels great, but its pretty sensitive and wears out a lot quicker than poly or laquered nitro. I'd prefer traditional on the body and then reserving satin just for the back of the neck. Think Schecter does that on a bunch of their models.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Now I want everything to be satin finished. Great.

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

If anyone here snags that gorgeous purple-burst Strat body before I can convince my wife that guitar projects are more important than house payments, I'll...I'll...I'll...

:)

Re: Warmoth Offering Satin Finishes

Those new flat finishes are killer!

The neck of my 2002 LPS has 1st-gen satin finish that I played glossy in months. It became nicely worn in and I absolutely love it.
