Warmoth vs. Usa Custom Guitars?

Hey guys.

If I wanted to order a custom strat, would you recommend Warmoth or USA custom guitars?

Thanx

Re: Warmoth vs. Usa Custom Guitars?

I know that both do excellent work. Tommy at USA custom has a very good reputation. Warmoth would definately have the edge in the sheer number of choices available....wood, body shape, routing, neck profile...you name it. I have personally only orderd from Warmoth, and considering their donation to an unspecified project, they will be my go to choice for custom projects from here on out. They are a great bunch of guys over there.

if you are looking at mahogany, go usacg. they are using honduran as oppose to warmoth's african.

both quality choices

the first question is what you are planning, then take it from there

yes, Warmoth has a wider choice of woods

Tommy at USACG is a great guy, who just happens to have worked at Warmoth, then gone out on his own. It's great to support the "little guy" when you can, too.

I don't see the choice as "one or the other" either, so I'd let the project dictate - I've ordered several Warmoth projects, and one USA project so far.

just do a little research, plan well, maybe send off a couple email inquiries to see who you are more comfortable working with, and keep asking questions until you're comfortable with your project - there are lots of tiny details and specs to the simplest guitar!

Re: Warmoth vs. Usa Custom Guitars?

At Warmoth, we use Honduran for all necks and African for the bodies. The reason we use African for the bodies is because of how heavy Honduran is. We've found that more people care less about what kind of Mahogany it is than weight. We've also had customers who prefer the sound of African Mahogany over Honduran saying it sounds more open. Lots of opinions out there.

Last time I checked, we had some Honduran for bodies. Feel free to check with us when you get ready and we'll have a look see.

I'm not gonna say anything bad about Warmoth, since they've been so gracious concerning the you-know-what. :laugh2:
