Warmoth worth it?

Ok, so basically, I'd really like to throw a nice frankenstrat together. Not a perfect EVH replica, just something that suits all my needs.

Are Warmoth as good as they sound for the bodies and necks? They look like a really good company, and their website is very informative. Can any customers out there vouch for them?

I do live in the UK, so if anyone can suggest a firm that is closer to home for me, that would be nice :)

Re: Warmoth worth it?

they rock!
ive put two guitars together from their parts....
two necks
two bodies
various parts
the prices can be high on some things.
you get what you pay for, except when you buy from fender or gibson.

Re: Warmoth worth it?

They are decent but, I think their compound radius that they try to push sucks.
IMO, pay the upcharge and get a standard radius. BTW, if you are going to pay the upcharge, it will be about the same price as a USACG which is better quality!

Re: Warmoth worth it?

i will recommend usacg over warmoth in terms of better wood, build quality and customer service. usacg's necks are one of the best i've seen and played.

if going for warmoth, go with their vintage modern necks. imo, the warmoth pro necks are tone suckers.

another thing i will add is the compound radius. usacg's 7.25" to 9.5" vs warmoth's 10" to 16". i find usacg's to be of higher playability. usacg's compound radius will taper to abt 12" at the bridge as compared to approximately 21" with warmoth.

most floyd type trem and t-o-m has a 12" radius. if a frankenstrat is your poison and you wanna stay true to specs with a floyd. usacg's compound radius or a straight 12" radius is the way to go.

No way, neck and body alone (painted/finished) came to $900 for me.

Wow! That's more than I was guessing or hoping. Looks like the Frankenstrat may be the way to go then. Is there a thread around with pictures of yours, Xeromus?

Different strokes for different folks, Warmoth´s compound radius is one of my personal favorites, just behind the 12-16" on Jacksons.

I agree that looking into USACG or Musikraft parts is a good Idea, though... I´ve never used either, and have always been happy with Warmoth parts when I needed something...

I like Jacksons 12-16 but, the Warmoth has NEVER agreed with me on any level (playing or setting up to my expectations). I have just wrote it off as a POS in my book.

Man, I love my Warmoth Pro neck. Compound radius, boat contour, 6105 frets, light satin finish. It's anything but a tone sucker. The guitar it's on is one of the best sounding axes I own. I really like their stuff but would try others as well.

Nope, that's because it's not finished yet. I've had all the parts sitting here for months. I just don't have the time or money to work on it right now.

Re: Warmoth worth it?

in 1995 i had a tech in Toronto put together a custom strat.... body was just something hanging on the wall of a store called The 12th Fret.... i was told it may of been a Chandler that someone from the store brought back from a NAMM trip... Nice alder body with a Flame maple top and a sunburst finnish.. The body cost me a lot but it was nice!!! I wanted the best neck i could buy and at the time Warmoth was it... I paid the extra to get a straight radius as i didn't trust the Compound.... Looking back i wish i had used the compount radius but hey it turned out all right..... I used a Fender trem bridge, 3 Dimarzio humbuckers-(a Fred, an small HS2, and a PAF Pro) Since then i have replaced the pickups with 2 PAF's and a Lace in the middle...

Stupid me used these ugly metal pickup rings and they are an odd size and the plastic ones will not fit in the same holes.... Oneday i still wish to get rid of those rings... i used them thinking i could change them later but didn't think they would of been an odd spec....

Anyways the neck was finnished by my tech in real Nitro..... What an amazing guitar!!!!! The neck is a bit thin for my liking-(Warmoth standard thin) and those rings bug me.... the Pickups in it have covers on them and i wish to change them all for Dimarzio uncovered PAF and PAF Pro.... Seems to be no matter what pickups i use the guitar still sounds great

The end result is one amazing guitar!!!!!

Bah! The compound radius is a dream!

I use the standard contour but otherwise I use the same specs on my Warmoth and that guitar is fantastic. There is no tone suckage there that I can find.

Hehe, my Strat had the exact same neck. Boatnecks rock. And my sentiments are exactly the same.

The compound radius is fine. The playability is excellent. No tone suckage.

Re: Warmoth worth it?

i heard a few techs at a well known and respected Toronto repair shop talking about Warmoth's compound radius... some like it some don't.... one guy said he popped his frets and sanded his a straight radius after playing with it for a year or so.... another guy said they don't work that great with Floyd nuts unless you flatten the radius out near the nut....

The theory behind the compound radius makes sense to me but i think Warmoth may be better off if they started at 12 and end at 16....

LOL??? This is the whole reason warmoth´s radius is 10" at the nut, because that´s the standard radius of a Schaller made (incl OFR) locking nut.... Very curious as to why someone would say such a thing....

There are of course other nuts availabe, but a standard floyd rose nut has a 10" radius. Interesting...

well at the time the guy said that a Floyd nut is meant for a 10 but a 12 works much better
