Warmth needed for a LP

I'v got this Orvile Les Paul which sounds very nice unplugged but she came with 57s that I don't like at all. I already own a LP studio with Custom/59 and a flying V with Distortion/Invader so I want some warmth and sweetness for this new axe. I want to hear the warmth of my tube amp with a well defined sound to play some cool reggae, funk or soul riffs. I really like Ben Harper sound on his last record, it could give an idea. Any suggestions is welcome, not necessarily SD pickups.

Custom 5, if you want a sweeter version of your Custom in the other guitar.
It's a very balanced sounding pickup, so it gives you a strong LP sound that can cover more styles than just rock.

DiMarzio PAF Pros are very transparent and let the tone of your guitar and tube amp shine through.

Re: Warmth needed for a LP

I have a set of Duncan Antiquities that saved my Heritage Blues Deluxe. Same problem. The guitar needed more warmth. The Antiquities did the trick. I can now get that sweet BB King tone, or that ripping Alvin Lee sound. The Antiquities reall sound terrifc. be aware though, they have a very "vintage vibe" to them that you really can't hide.

Definately an Antiquity set. You already have the focused, high output thing happening so try something thats a bit looser and more organic. I run an Antiquity set through a Mesa rack and the tone is organic and brutal at the same time.

Very cool pickups.

Ants all the way! Great HB's. But if you need wax potted ones I would recommend PGs!

Thanks to all of you. I think I will give the ants a try.
Just a little question for Dr.Barlo : what do you mean when you say I may need some wax potted picks? Are the ants squealing whith strong or soft distortion?

Re: Warmth needed for a LP

I love the Rio Grande BBQ/Texas set but as Rob mentioned the Antiquity set may be the ticket. I hear great things.

I have 5 of them, 2 sets and a neck. And NONE of them had any squealing issues, even at very high vols (bassman 59RI can be quite loud you know). But if you are gonna use a 100W tube head very loud, and then it might be an issue, see?
