Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

What can you guys tell me about these?

I'm mostly a guitarist, but have been getting more and more into bass as well. I currently have a MIM P-Bass. It's punchy, but I'm looking for something thicker, with more growl, and preferably 24 frets. I'm looking for Justin Chancellor (of Tool) tone.

These seem to fit the bill. I've played other Warwicks and have been impressed with the quality. I guess it's between one of these and a Stingray. Humbuckers are a must, 24 frets would be nice.

buddy one mine has a red one and he loves it.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

Thanks Jeremy. There are plenty of these and the Stingrays on the Bay for decent prices. I guess I'm leaning towards this one for the 24 frets, but I could be convinced otherwise.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

Can anyone comment on which will get get me closer to the tone I'm after?

Which one would have more kick? Justin's tone is heavy, but always clear and snappy.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

I have a Warwick thumb, which I love, I have played the Corvette $$ and like it as well. If you get a good deal on it you should jump on it. The Warwicks have a nice growling low end.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

Great bass with nice growl and tonal shaping options. I couldn't get past the thick, fat neck though.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

Yeah the neck worries me a bit. I don't remember it bothering me but that was a while ago. I'm better off A/B-ing the Warwick Corvette with the MM Stingray before I take one home. I think either one will get close to the tone I'm after.

Re: Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck?

The Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck bass guitar is similar to the other Corvette models, but distinguishes itself with unique electronics. It features 2 powerful MEC humbuckers nestled closely in the center position, completely covering the legendary sweet-spot that so many basses miss completely. This configuration gives it a powerful, solid tone with depth and clarity. To make it versatile, 2 mini 3-way switches let you choose humbucker, single-coil, and parallel or series operation. The passive pickups are matched to the MEC 2-band active preamp, making it a true passive/active hybrid. The Double Buck features a select swamp ash body, an ovangkol neck, bell brass frets, high-quality hardware, and natural or transparent color oil finishes.

Warwick Corvette $$ Double Buck 4-String Bass Features:

Select swamp ash body
Corvette body shape
Ovangkol neck
Dual MEC humbuckers
3-way coil tap switches for hum cancelling, single coil, or parallel/series pickup operation
Bell brass frets
High-quality components

Nice. I have a basic Corvette myself. It likes the Warwick strings best, but does well with DR Hibeams.
