Was it an X2N?

Today i played a an Epi Lp at the local used guitars store.

The pup's sounded great!
I could tell they were dimarzios from how they looked + the were double creams. (i know, you can order duncans in double creams, blah blah blah)

The pups had 2 blades each.

the only pups i saw on dimarzio's site that had twin blades were the X2N.

so are these pups x2n's or doe's dimarzio make other full sized HB's that have twin blades?

please help me out because these pups sounded great and i would like to get a pair.

Those would be X2N's, I don't think ANYBODY makes a double creme double railed with rails that big, aside from an X2N. Based on your Sig, I'm surprised you liked them. Their a pretty high output pickup, most used for metal. Dave Mustaine used one on Rust In Piece, and Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) Always used one for everything, clean and dirty (only pickup in his guitars, and all his guitars were identical, only had 3 IIRC)

Those would be X2N's, I don't think ANYBODY makes a double creme double railed with rails that big, aside from an X2N. Based on your Sig, I'm surprised you liked them. Their a pretty high output pickup, most used for metal. My explorer- Invader bridge.
Strat- high output singles.
Telecaster- Custom made guitar my me. Mahagony Body/ Maple neck + FB/ 2 hotrails pups.

I mostly play metal.

when i play shows with either my band or my friends band i use his amps and cabnets.

Its basically---


Randall Head- marshall 4x12 + second 4x12- my Explorer and a single pedal.



my amp is a pos- peavy. unusable for any thing other then bedroom jams.

---i got a new job so i should be buying some new equipment of my own soon.

The X2N doesn't have *rails*, what your are looking at are the magnets (I think,I never pulled the tape up on mine to see how it's architecture was done now that I think about it) ... Bars would be a better description of them actually. I thought Epi had some OBL pups that looked just like those, double creme and all. I thought there was another company that had that same design also ... Anyway, if they are DMZs, they may be OEM pups.

Epi OBL's were based on Bill Lawrences XL500 IIRC, from when he worked at Gibson. These designs both are different than X2n's so it would be hard to confuse between them. X2n's have thick rails and Bill Lawrence/OBL's have very thin blades.

Yes, these pups had very thick blades. Much thicker then any Duncan bladed pup.

Could also be an X2N-B. Looks exactly the same, but the EQ curve is quite different from the X2N. I´d see if I could get the shop to either let me look or look themselves if at all possible

Actually, the blades of one or 2 OBL Humbuckers arent exactly thin either (BTW, they came before the Bill Lawrence models IIRC, or rather the Lawrences evolved from them. I´m not sure exactly, but I do know that the OBL line was originally introduced while Bill was still working for Gibson in the ´80s and I think the ´90s was the first time I ever heard of a "Bill Lawrence" Pickup), but the OBL Logo is impossible to miss (unless it was "toothpasted" i.e. removed), so we can probably still rule them out.

But OBLs DID come stock on quite a few Epiphones such as the Coronet, I think they still do on one or 2 models....

I could have sworn that the one I saw had wide bars, and the guiatr had a tacky plastic sticker that said OBL's , also had a cheesy little cardboard tag around one of the tone controls stating that it was a push/pull coil tap.
You sure that the oBL had rails (I've used one or two Bill Lawernce's before), I'll take your word for it, but I don't remember it that way ... :::scratches head:::

EKK ... the X2NB ... an X2N for Bass ... well, you gotta give DMZ props for having the guts to stick something like that on the market! LOL!
Yeah, like I said, I remember the OBL's looking like an X2N, I didn't have 'em side by side so, maybe my brain just *filled in the blanks* a bit ... But I thought they were more similar, than dissimilar.

OBL's above or Dimarzio X2n's on the right side of bottom picture.

To further complicate things, Gibson used OBL pickups which had little or nothing to do with Bill Lawrence's designs, so maybe there are OBL's (on some Epiphones) that look more closely to an X2N but I have never seen one honestly.

Im rulling out OBl's!

The epi Lp was newer/ Maybe 3 or 4 years max. It was in great shape.

And the Pups were Newer too. They had absolutely no pick marks or anything on them. Looked like they had come right out of the box + the were the Dimarzio cream color.

The pups sounded Awsome for shred. Is that what the X2N's are supposed to sound like?

Zerb- what is the X2N-B? Is it still availible? nd what is the difference of the X2N and the X2N-B?

The x2n-b was a bass model pickup. It was made for bass guitars that take a common sized guitar pickup for a 4 string bass. People have tried it for guitar with undetermined results.

The x2n is a fine pickup for shred. I used one for a year in my frankenstrat as the lone pickup.
