Was Playing one Of My Strats W/SSL6s..

I haven't played this guitar for awhile with these pickups and I didn't like the pickups tonight? Too middy...Not too dark, but too much mids and more overall output...I used to love these pickups, but I think I'm spoiled by the Antiquities and the Twangbanger these days...

I know what you mean John. As I pointed out in another thread somewhere, now that I have the vintage JB in my Genny, I hardly ever touch my Predator or Patriot anymore . . . and they both sound awsome. ;)

Nice to see you back Artie,I was asking about you a couple of days ago..Hope you had a great Christmas buddy...I Know you've been on,but it's been minimal.

Funny how our ears are always changing...I used to love the SSL5 and SSL6 but they currently sound too strong in the mids for me...I was playing clean with that strat and had I played with some overdrive or a TS9 etc..maybe I'd been happier?

What position are you using them in John?

All 3 positions....(Matched set)...Seems like overkill now though..I bought these several years ago,in fact when Thoroughbred Music was still around..

Thanks guys. The last month or so has just been a case of my plate runneth over. What with road trips, and family settling in for the holidays, I haven't had a spare moment. Things are starting to settle down now a bit. :)

After trial an error, I found the tone of the SSL-6 neck and middle to be the same as you described. However, I do like the tone of the SSL-6 in the bridge position of my 2002 American Series, matched with the Surfer neck and middle.

Re: Was Playing one Of My Strats W/SSL6s..

I've wanted to try the custom in the bridge position, but the EQ shows them to be brighter than the Hot, so that's what I've used, and it seems fine to me.

I would think the Customs would be a little too much output in the other positions, though.
