Re: Washer ring as ground

For anybody still interested...

That's done for now. The bridge pickup cuts off randomly, the soldering looks just as good as the neck pickup so I'm not sure what the hell is going on. But right now I'm tired of messing with it and will be getting back to work on the pink Squier which got me into this modding thing in the first place.

Re: Washer ring as ground

The washer is touching the switch lugs and grounding out your bridge pickup. Just use the pot back for your central ground point.

Re: Washer ring as ground

^This^. But more in keeping with the "theme" of the control cavity wiring, just wrap the washer with electrical tape ...

Re: Washer ring as ground

^ Yup

Man you can buy pots for under $5. Why are you even bothering with this ****?

Cause he f'd up the soldering and said to hell with it. I'm thinking that if one can do all that soldering to a washer, then they can probably buy some 5 dollar pots, start over and manage to be successful. Maybe a little practice soldering spare wire to the cases of the bad pots first would be helpful ...

Then again, no mention of what soldering equipment he is using. Maybe it's a 300 watt gun or maybe it's a 15 watt pencil and lead free solder ...

Re: Washer ring as ground

In place of the washer, any single conductor wire could be used for ground. Any closeby store that sells bulbs/fans/etc. would have a 18awg wire around for a buck maybe for half meter length. Old broken extension boxes are also a source for salvaging it.

Hey Jimi, why don't you just buy a left-handed guitar?

Washers I had, $5 I had not.

Just sick a new pot in and start over."

Didn't want one.

Thanks for the tip, last week.

Anyway, thanks to the helpful people in the thread. The bridge pickup kind of died a little, but I figured the solder wasn't properly attached, redid it, and it's fine now.
