Wattage

I'm curious. Where in an amp would you look to find and measure it's actual output wattage? I have a Whattmeter that I've used for years to test ESC's', batteries and motors in my RC planes but I don't know much about the guts of amps...tube or otherwise...other than to change and bias the tubes, replace plugs or pots, etc., if needed. I know to stay away from caps and other high voltage components. Thanks. -Rod-

I've never tried this and it looks like it may be less accurate than what you're looking for.

Interesting. I thought it might be as simple as monitoring the speaker leads but wasn't sure if that was actual output from the tubes (or ss stuff) or simply what lands at the speakers with losses being incurred along the way. Thanks -Rod-

I just don't understand how Gerald settled on a voltage with the way the meter reading was fluctuating, but I guess his method will get you in the ballpark.

I thought the same. Maybe he should have grabbed the highest reading rather than settling on an arbirary median?

BTW thanks for the welcome! Dunno where your town is offhand, only been in Texas about 18 months, via 5 years in L.A., 28 years in Colorado Springs and 21 in L.A. where I started. Friggin HOT here in the summer! :angryfire -Rod-

Last summer was brutal ... unusually hot.

Keller is due north of east Fort Worth. Technically I live in Ft. Worth city limits. We may have been a degree or two cooler than you last summer by virtue of being a bit farther north.

Are you right along I-35? We travel that way going to Winstar up on the border every so often but I mostly don't watch all the little towns go by. It was 108 here the day our place burned down (Aug 2nd) so you must have only been simmering at 106. Bummer. -Rod-

These wattmeters will not work on the high frequency A/C that comes out of the amp.

I am close to I-35W. From your side of Texas you would have gone north on I-35 E.

I-35 splits somewhere near Hillsboro. The E leg goes through Dallas ... the west leg through Ft. Worth. They rejoin north of the Metroplex in Denton.

Yeah you're right about that. The split is on the north end of Hillsboro about a mile past the Exxon station where they sell the fried pies lol

Just ordered a pair of Tungsol EL-34B's. Be nice to have a quiet amp again! -Rod-
